There are two purposes for this "box":
(The first one is stupid)
1. To be able to record Static free conversations automatically from your own
phone.
2. To be able to record Conversations of another household. (via phonebox)
What you'll need:
*One of those earphone things that comes with most old tv's and still comes
with most cassette recorders.
*A voice activated recorder with a "MIC" jack. The smaller the better.
Contruction:
Construction is simple. First take your earphone and cut the part that goes
into your ear off. Then strip those two wires so that you have two seperate
wires. Connect them to two seperate alligator clips. Plug in the
other end into the "MIC" jack of the recorder and you have a rec box.
Installation and use:
1. To record conversations from your own house you would first take the phone
jack off the wall with a screw driver. Look for the red and green wires and
connect the two alligator clips to them, as you would a beige box. Put the
recorder in voice activated mode and press record. Now when you pick up the
phone the recorder should start recording... if you set up everything
correctly. It will continue to record as long as there's sound being made on
either end untill the phone is hung up. At this point the recorder should
stop.
2. To record conversations of other people's household you should first find
thier phonebox. Open it and you should find something that resembles this:
* *
ΘΘ
ΘΘ
* *
Now connect the alligator clips to the two bolts that would give you the tone,
probably the top outer two. If your have a beige box you should connect it
to the to bolts that you think will work first and then listen for the tone.
If you hear one, then your set. Make sure that the recorder is in voice
activation mode and depending on the size of the recorder... you might be
able to fit it into the phone box. When someone picks up a phone in the house
the recorder should start recording.
You could also connect this device to a big green bell box, but this would
most likely result in a loss of the device.
Well thats about it. If you have any comments/questions just leave me mail
on any board I frequent.
