  19. RED "Shack" BOX -- 1994 (today October 21, 1994)

  21. I recently bought this report for $8.00 from a Texas company called The Information Center. 
  22. These plans were taken almost verbatium, as was all of the other "box" plans they sell, from &
  23. the Temple of the Screaming Electron.  I know because I downloaded the original files free in
  24. 1989 from said BB.  Because of this, I declare the copyright 1993 claimed by this company is
  25. null and void and hereby distribute this information free of charge to the phone phreaking
  26. community.  As usual, this document is for informational purposes only and is not to be used
  27. to commit any crime or for purposes of fraud or other illegal intentions.

  29. Buy a Radio shack movel 43-146, 33 number memory pocket Tone Dialer (not the lesser
  30. expensive model) for about $25.00.  Obtain a 6.5536 Mhz crystal from an electronics store. 
  31. Carefully remove the cover with a small phillips head screwdriver, being careful not to pull the
  32. speaker wires from the speaker when seperating the halfs of the unit.

  34. The crystal tone generating chip to take out is in the middle left as you're looking down at the
  35. opened unit laying horizontal right next to 3 round orange resistors.  It is sliver and exactly 5
  36. cm long and 3 cm round with 3579 on it.  The 6.5536 substitution crystal will cost you $0.87. 
  37. I bought 2 luckily bacause one wasn't working.

  39. Carefully remove the old crystal.  I used an X-ato knife to carefully cut the glue that holds the
  40. old crystal down to the PC board and pry it up.  I tried to remove the crystal by taking off the
  41. old one with a soldering iron, but couldn't get the new one to fit properly and had to start again
  42. with another tone dailer (save your receipt in case you have to do this).  I ended up clipping the
  43. old wires on the old chip as to leave maximum wire leading from the PC board and then
  44. attaching thin phone wire to these leads and mounting the new chip externally as it doesn't fit
  45. readily into the old case.  Tape all leads to ensure no shorts.

  47. This is long winded tedious work, but the effort will be rewarded with the following.  Turn the
  48. power on the dailer on.  Slide the switch to the store position, press the memory key once, press
  49. the * key five times, press the memory key one more time then press the P1 key once.  You
  50. have now stored five repetitions of the * key into P1 memory on the dailer.

  52. Call your favorite long distance number from a non-private pay phone (a bell phone).  When the
  53. computer asks you for $2.70, simply put the sound piece to the reciever and press the P1 key
  54. 11 times and you "put" $2.75 in the phone.  You will get a recording that says you now have
  55. 5 cents credit.  Talk away.  Hint: Don't feed more than the recording askes for thinking you can
  56. build up your credit bank, this causes the AT&T operator to interrupt your call and ask you
  57. what's going on.  Don't use the same pay phone all of the time.  Don't say anything over the
  58. phone other than you're at a pay phone with a bunch of quarters, you don't know who's listening
  59. (big brother).  I advise everyone I talk to in writing not to use their or my names when we talk
  60. for security and to deny they even know anybody living in XXXX if ever approached.

  62. I've talked my head off and my long distance bill has shrank to nothing.  The only hastle is that
  63. you have to plug the meter every 3 minutes which is a sligt inconvenience.  Phone home.  Any
