Title : The NEW Red Box....
>> This message has 2 replies
Ok boys and girls.. Today for your enjoyment we are going to discuss
the construction of a more recent, advanced...etc...RED BOX..
Things you will need
--------------------
Tone dialer from Radio Shack.. Model Number 43-141 ($24.95 Ouch)
Philips screwdriver
Soldering Iron
Wire cutters
6.5536 Megahertz (MHz) crystal
Lone nose pliars.
Put dialer face down with speaker facing up. open up battery compartment
(and batteries). You should see two screws inside. Take these, and the two
screws on top of the dialer, out.. Now there are only plastic clips holding
the dialer together.. Open the dialer by pushing in on the clips on the
bottom and lifting off the cover. You might wanna use a flathead screw driver
as a wedge to get the cover off.
Now, slide the part with the speaker underneath the other half. DON'T
mess up any of the wires. Find a small (About 1/2 inch long and 1/8 thick)
metal-like cylinder shaped object. Pull it away from the circuit board,
breaking the glue holding it in place. Unsolder it. This is a 3.579545 MHz
crytal..
Now, here is the hard part. Getting the new crystal to fit in properly.
Bend the 3 disk capacitors out of the way being careful to not mess up the
wire leads. Also remove the screw. Most likely, the new crystal will be
bigger than you first crystal so you will have to play around with the crystal
leads to get them to line up with the connection on the board. Solder the new
crystal in place. Close up the dialer being careful not to clip or pinch any
of the wires. Make sure also that none are in th eway of the screw holes. Put
in 3 AAA batteries.
Test. Turn it on. The LED light should come on. Set the lower slide
switch to the STORE mode. Press MEMORY button. Press the '*' key five times.
Press MEMORY again then the P1 key. You should hear a beep and then a longer
beep after pressing P1 to you the program is in memory.
Switch unit to DIAL mode. Press the P1 key and you should hear 5 tones
that sound damn close to the coin tones in a pay fone. An idea is to set P1
to 4 quaters, P2 to be 2, and P3 as 1 quarter. (REMEMBER TO PUT PAUSES
BETWEEN EACH SET OF TONES!!!!)
FOR THE SLOWER PEOPLE: The box CAN'T be used as a tone dialer anymore.
Enjoy your selves.. Remeber that you must USUALLY put in the first nickle
then the rest is up to the dialer. Put it up to the hand-set's mouth piece
and let 'er go.....
Have fun boys and girls and as always...Try not to look to suspicious..
BTW, if anyone asks, YOU'RE CHECKING YOUR ANSWERING MACHINE FOR MESSAGES..
(wink,wink)
Later..
