  2. How To Build a Silver Box
  3. -------------------------

  5. tools and materials :  soldering iron, solder, some 22 ga. wire, a spdt
  6. switch, and a screwdriver.
  7.  
  8. (1) unscrew your phone (must be a touch
  9. tone, desk type)
  10. (2) remove the mounted pad and take the
  11. clear plastic cover from the bottom.
  12. (3) hold the pad with the numbers 0, *,
  13. # facing you, and turn it upside down,
  14. so you can see the yellow pc board.
  15. (4) you should see 2 black round
  16. doughnuts.
  17. (5) position the board so the solder
  18. points for the left doughnut face you.
  19. (6) count over four points from the
  20. left, and attach a (green) wire to that
  21. point.
  22. (7) between you and the doughnuts,
  23. there should be 2 long yellow
  24. capacitors.  to the right of these, and
  25. on the edge of the board there should
  26. be 3 gold contacts. we will use the one
  27. on the left.
  28. (8) the contact originally is spot
  29. welded, so snip it open.
  30. (9) to the one nearest you, attach a
  31. wires out of the phone,
  32. and solder the switch.
  33. (11) the orientation should be (red) to
  34. center. the switch will now alternate
  35. between normal and 1633hz fourth
  36. column tones.

  40. the silver box transforms keys 3,6,9,# to a,b,c,d. those tones stand for:

  42. "a"-flash
  43. "b"-flash override (priority)
  44. "c"-priority communication
  45. "d"-priority overide (top military)
  46.  
  47. those keys only work on certain networks. Now what do you do with those
  48. extra tones???

  50. call any long distance directory by dialing (area code) 555-1212 and while
  51. it rings press the # key then as the operator answers you will disconnect
  52. them instantly and hear a pulsing tone, press 6(normal tone) and it will
  53. stop.then if another person does the same thing on another line and then
  54. presses 7 you should have a voice link, area code 414 is good for one that
  55. you can screw around with the tones and see what you get.
