- Thank you for trying GONG v1.02!
-
- GONG! is a simple program which installs two new sound events on your
- computer. You will now have a sound event for the top of the hour and
- every quarter of an hour. I have included 3 wav files and deposited
- them in your WINDOWS\MEDIA directory. They are just suggestions, use
- whatever sounds you like! To change them go to your Control Panel and
- select Sounds.
-
- To activate your new sound events GONG!.EXE (approx 25K) loads into memory
- at startup. It is extremely small and takes 0, I repeat ZERO, CPU cycles
- except when it is playing the sound event(s).
-
- VERY IMPORTANT!!!!!!!!
- If you would like GONG!'s sound events to run everytime you turn on your
- computer must have a shortcut to GONG! in your STARUP folder. To do this
- do the following steps:
-
- 1) Place your mouse over the START button.
- 2) Right Click.
- 3) Select EXPLORE.
- 4) Double click on PROGRAMS.
- 5) Drag GONG! and drop it in STATUP
- 6) Pat yourself on the back and enjoy!
-
-
-
- Technical Note: Because the program is "suspended" in-between GONGS!
- if you change the time while running Window's 95 GONG! won't notice until
- it plays its sound and resets it timer to go back to sleep. It will then
- correct itself and GONG! at the appropriate time. Changing the time
- does not affect the operation of GONG! in any other manner and does not
- cause an error.
-
- GONG! has been completely tested for months on 5 computers mainly because
- I was too lazy to make it available anytime sooner. I am very confident
- that this program is bug free. Being a programmer it is usually a bad idea
- to say something like that but being as this program consists of about
- 20 lines of code which I have carefully studied, traced, and tested many
- times I am quite confident.
-
- However, with that being said and being a firm believer in Murphy's Law
- please contact me if anything goes amiss. It is best to contact me via
- email (try the following order until you get a response):

- cgreen@uclink2.berkeley.edu <- Try first
- cgreen@cory.eecs.berkeley.edu
- cgreen@soda.berkeley.eddu
-
- Thanks for giving my program a whirl. I ask nothing in return but praise
- which you can send to the above addresses. As is usual in this type of
- text I claim no responsibility for your computer melting down, the loss
- of the most important report you've ever written, or the Apocalypse.
-
- Bug Fix:
- v1.0 : Default sound played when no wav selected. Whoops. Fixed in 5 seconds.
- v1.01: Sometimes quarter hour sound played instead of hourly. Increased
- tolerance so allow for systems that might get extremely busy and
- therefore might not trigger the interrupt exactly on time.
