  3. Welcome to the Teacher 2000 CDROM.  This disc contains 2300 files,
  4. more than 450 megabytes of compressed files.  This disc is the most
  5. complete collection of educational shareware for adults and children.

  9. Here is a list of some important files in the root directory.

  12. readme.txt       The file you're currently reading.
  13. go.bat           MSDOS: Batch file that starts the view program.
  14. view.exe         MSDOS: Program to view the index files and select files to 
  15.                  unzip.
  16. winview.exe      Windows: Index/File Browser.
  17. unzip.exe        Program that unzips *.zip files.
  18. 00_index.txt     A list with descriptions of all the files on this disc.
  19. filelist.txt     The full path names of all the files on the disc.

  21. docs\            Important docs from Walnut Creek CDROM.
  22. msdos\           Directory containing all the DOS games.
  23. windows\         Directory containing all the Windows games.
  24. _bbs\            Directory containing support for bulletin board systems.

  29. To use this disc, you will need to unarchive the compressed programs
  30. on the CDROM to your hard disk.  
  31.  
  32. To make browsing the disk easier, we have included the WINVIEW
  33. program for Windows and VIEW for MSDOS in the root directory of the
  34. CDROM.  This program allows you to page through the index files and
  35. then unarchive the program(s) you want onto your hard disk.

  39. MSDOS: The VIEW Program
  40.  
  41. To use this disc under MSDOS, first change drives to your CDROM
  42. drive.  Then type VIEW in the root directory of the CDROM drive and
  43. press ENTER.  The VIEW program will display a listing of the disc's
  44. subdirectories and their descriptions.  Use the cursor (arrow) keys
  45. to move the highlight bar up and down the screen, and press ENTER to
  46. change into any of the subdirectories.  The VIEW program will then
  47. display a list of files within that particular directory.  To view or
  48. run any of these files, press ENTER.  To copy a particular file,
  49. press the "C" key.  To return to the subdirectory listing, press the
  50. ESCAPE key.  Pressing "?" will display a help screen.

  56. WINDOWS Installation:
  57.  
  58. Although the WINVIEW and VIEW programs require no installation (as
  59. they can run directly off of the disc), you can install the programs
  60. onto your hard drive using the SETUP program.  To run the
  61. installation:
  62.  
  63.         1)      Start up Windows
  64.  
  65.         2)      Choose RUN from the Program Manager File menu to see the RUN
  66.                 dialog box.
  67.         
  68.         3)      In the command line box, type
  69.  
  70.                         D:\setup
  71.  
  72.                 (If the D: drive is not your CDROM drive, change it to the
  73.                 appropriate CDROM drive letter.) 
  74.  
  75.         4) Click OK to start the installation.

  79. To install a program you uncompressed onto your hard drive from the
  80. CDROM so it displays an icon in your applications group, you can do
  81. one of two things: 
  82.  
  83. 1)  First select Windows Setup in the Main Group. 
  84.     Then select Options in the menu bar.  
  85.     Select Set Up Applications.
  86.     Select Ask You to Specify An Application.
  87.     Type the path and name of the program you'd like to install.
  88.  
  89.     Windows setup will copy the program's icon into the Application
  90.     Group and set up the program to run from the icon.
  91.  
  92.     For example, to make an permanent icon for boxworld after copying
  93.     it with VIEW you would type:
  94.  
  95.         c:\win3\games\boxworld\boxworld.exe
  96.  
  97.     into the "Specify An Application" box.
  98.  
  99. 2)  Start up File Manager, then locate the executable program (which
  100.     usually ends in .EXE or .COM) you wish to install.
  101.  
  102.     Drag that program icon to your Applications porogram group inside
  103.     your Program Manager window, then release the mouse button.  The icon 
  104.     will now be in your Applications window, and the program can now be
  105.     run from that icon.

  109. For windows programs compiled with Visual Basic, the run time library
  110. is required.  Copy the files vbrun100.dll, vbrun200.dll, and
  111. vbrun300.dll in the VBRUN\ directory to your windows directory (which
  112. is most likely C:\WINDOWS\SYSTEM).

  116. Although you may own this disk, you do not own the programs recorded
  117. on it.  Many of the programs on this disk are shareware.  You are
  118. free to try each program for a limited amount of time.  If you are
  119. satisfied, and want to continue to use the program, you are required
  120. to register the program by sending a specified amount of money
  121. directly to the author of the program.  In many cases the author will
  122. send you the most up to date version of the program and a printed
  123. manual.  Please check the individual files for specific information.
