=============================== README.TXT ==================================
Welcome to the Teacher 2000 CDROM. This disc contains 2300 files,
more than 450 megabytes of compressed files. This disc is the most
complete collection of educational shareware for adults and children.
============================================================================
Here is a list of some important files in the root directory.
readme.txt The file you're currently reading.
go.bat MSDOS: Batch file that starts the view program.
view.exe MSDOS: Program to view the index files and select files to
unzip.
winview.exe Windows: Index/File Browser.
unzip.exe Program that unzips *.zip files.
00_index.txt A list with descriptions of all the files on this disc.
filelist.txt The full path names of all the files on the disc.
docs\ Important docs from Walnut Creek CDROM.
msdos\ Directory containing all the DOS games.
windows\ Directory containing all the Windows games.
_bbs\ Directory containing support for bulletin board systems.
vbrun\ VBRUN100.DLL, VBRUN200.DLL, VBRUN300.DLL
==========================================================================
To use this disc, you will need to unarchive the compressed programs
on the CDROM to your hard disk.
To make browsing the disk easier, we have included the WINVIEW
program for Windows and VIEW for MSDOS in the root directory of the
CDROM. This program allows you to page through the index files and
then unarchive the program(s) you want onto your hard disk.
==========================================================================
MSDOS: The VIEW Program
To use this disc under MSDOS, first change drives to your CDROM
drive. Then type VIEW in the root directory of the CDROM drive and
press ENTER. The VIEW program will display a listing of the disc's
subdirectories and their descriptions. Use the cursor (arrow) keys
to move the highlight bar up and down the screen, and press ENTER to
change into any of the subdirectories. The VIEW program will then
display a list of files within that particular directory. To view or
run any of these files, press ENTER. To copy a particular file,
press the "C" key. To return to the subdirectory listing, press the
ESCAPE key. Pressing "?" will display a help screen.
Please consult \DOCS\VIEW.DOC for further instructions.
=======================================================================
WINDOWS Installation:
Although the WINVIEW and VIEW programs require no installation (as
they can run directly off of the disc), you can install the programs
onto your hard drive using the SETUP program. To run the
installation:
1) Start up Windows
2) Choose RUN from the Program Manager File menu to see the RUN
dialog box.
3) In the command line box, type
D:\setup
(If the D: drive is not your CDROM drive, change it to the
appropriate CDROM drive letter.)
4) Click OK to start the installation.
=======================================================================
To install a program you uncompressed onto your hard drive from the
CDROM so it displays an icon in your applications group, you can do
one of two things:
1) First select Windows Setup in the Main Group.
Then select Options in the menu bar.
Select Set Up Applications.
Select Ask You to Specify An Application.
Type the path and name of the program you'd like to install.
Windows setup will copy the program's icon into the Application
Group and set up the program to run from the icon.
For example, to make an permanent icon for boxworld after copying
it with VIEW you would type:
c:\win3\games\boxworld\boxworld.exe
into the "Specify An Application" box.
2) Start up File Manager, then locate the executable program (which
usually ends in .EXE or .COM) you wish to install.
Drag that program icon to your Applications porogram group inside
your Program Manager window, then release the mouse button. The icon
will now be in your Applications window, and the program can now be
run from that icon.
=======================================================================
For windows programs compiled with Visual Basic, the run time library
is required. Copy the files vbrun100.dll, vbrun200.dll, and
vbrun300.dll in the VBRUN\ directory to your windows directory (which
is most likely C:\WINDOWS\SYSTEM).
=======================================================================
Although you may own this disk, you do not own the programs recorded
on it. Many of the programs on this disk are shareware. You are
free to try each program for a limited amount of time. If you are
satisfied, and want to continue to use the program, you are required
to register the program by sending a specified amount of money
directly to the author of the program. In many cases the author will
send you the most up to date version of the program and a printed
manual. Please check the individual files for specific information.
Please help support shareware by contributing to these authors. They
make discs like this possible.
