- THE LIST OF LARGEST KNOWN PRIMES
-
- This directory contains the list of largest known primes as several
- text files. The primes are listed one prime per line, so the list
- starts (as of April 1994) as follows:
-
- ---------------------------------------------------------------
- rank prime digits who year
- ---------------------------------------------------------------
- 1g 2^859433-1 258716 SG 94 Mersenne ??
- 2 2^756839-1 227832 SG 92 Mersenne ??
- 3 391581*2^216193-1 65087 Z 89
- 4 2^216091-1 65050 S 85 Mersenne 31
- 5 2^132049-1 39751 S 83 Mersenne 30
- ---------------------------------------------------------------
-
- So the largest known prime is two to the 859433rd power minus
- one, it has 258,716 digits, was discovered by Slowinski and Gage
- in 1994 and is a Mersenne (but we do not know which because the
- whole region below it has not been checked yet).
- The letters after the rank indicate the most recently added
- primes. See the last pages of the list for information about
- these and other notations.

- smaller primes
- types.txt Explains some of the different types of primes
