The read/write, magneto-optic disk drive uses a magnetic |read/write head| similar to those used in |floppy| and |hard disk drives|. The head houses a small ~bias coil~, capable of transforming electrical signals into magnetic fields and vice-versa. The data on this type of optical disc is not susceptible to alteration by magnetic fields at room temperature. Therefore, a laser beam must heat a small region of the recording surface to the ~Curie temperature~. The read/write head may then alter the data in that region of the disc.
