  18.             I know -- I did all I could.
  19.                 (a beat)
  20.             It's small comfort.

  22.     O'Brien gives Julian a sympathetic nod. He knows
  23.     there's nothing he can say to improve Julian's mood.

  25. 43   INT. BASHIR'S QUARTERS - NIGHT
  26.  
  27.     Bashir, wearing pajamas, climbs into bed. He sits
  28.     there for a moment wearing a defeated expression.
  29.     He sighs and takes A Tale of Two Cities from his
  30.     bedside table, opens it to his bookmark (in the
  31.     center of the book) and begins to read. A quizzical
  32.     look rapidly spreads over his face.
  33.  
  34.                     BASHIR
  35.             "It was the best of times... "
  36.  
  37. 44   INT. O'BRIEN'S QUARTERS
  38.  
  39.     O'Brien holds Bashir's copy of A Tale of Two
  40.     Cities, looking at the same page Bashir was just
  41.     reading.

  43.                     O'BRIEN
  44.                 (reading)
  45.             "... it was the worst of times."

  47.     WIDEN TO REVEAL Bashir standing beside him.

  50.             It's the first line of the book.

  53.             That's right. So why is it on
  54.             page two hundred and ninety-four?

  56.     O'Brien flips between the front of the book and the
  57.     middle, looking over the text.
