  2.     DEEP SPACE NINE: "Statistical... " - REV. 10/23/97 - ACT THREE   31.
  3.
  4. 24   CONTINUED:    (3)
  5.
  6.                     JACK (Cont'd)
  7.             That's how they think. The big
  8.             picture. They don't worry about
  9.             what's going to happen tomorrow --
  10.             pff -- they're thinking about
  11.             what's going to happen a year from
  12.             now, a decade, a century.
  13.
  14.                     BASHIR
  15.             There must be something special
  16.             about the Kabrel System.
  17.
  18.                     LAUREN
  19.                 (shrugs)
  20.             There's nothing on the first
  21.             planet but some simple protozoids
  22.             and tri-nucleic fungi. The second
  23.             planet has some cormaline deposits,
  24.             but that's common enough.
  25.
  26.                     JACK
  27.             Okay, okay. Maybe there's another
  28.             reason -- does it have any
  29.             strategic value?
  30.
  31.     As the conversation continues in the background, Bashir
  32.     notices Sarina writing something on her PADD with a
  33.     STYLUS. Curious, he watches as she finishes writing
  34.     and slides the PADD away from her. Without calling
  35.     attention to herself or looking at anyone else, she
  36.     goes back to staring at the wall. Bashir crosses to
  37.     her side to look at the PADD.
  38.
  39.         BASHIR                        LAUREN
  40.     Sarina, does this have                (answering Jack
  41.     anything to do with                in background)
  42.     what we're talking            Not that I can see.
  43.     about?                    They wouldn't want to
  44.                             set up a base there --
  45.     Without looking at him, she nods    it's a binary system,
  46.     ever so slightly.                there's a lot of ionic
  47.                             interference.
  48.         BASHIR
  49.     Can I have it?                        JACK
  50.                             All right, forget that.
  51.     Again, she nods almost                (more to himself)
  52.     imperceptibly.                    Think, think.
  53.                                 (an idea)
  54.         BASHIR                Any evidence that Kabrel
  55.     Thank you.                    used to support an
  56.                             advanced civilization?
  57.                             Maybe they're looking
  58.                             to excavate something
  59.                             valuable -- like an
  60.                             ancient technology.
  61.
  62.                                 LAUREN
  63.                             There's no evidence of
  64.                             anything like that.
  65.
