  13.             You've never had a child. You 
  14.             don't know what it's like to watch 
  15.             your son...

  17.     Her voice catches on emotion, but Amsha is a strong 
  18.     woman and she pushes through it.
  19.  
  20.                     AMSHA
  21.                 (continuing)
  22.             To watch him fall a little further 
  23.             behind every day... to know that 
  24.             he's trying, but something's 
  25.             holding him back. You don't know
  26.             what it's like to stay up every 
  27.             night worrying that maybe it's 
  28.             your fault. Maybe you did 
  29.             something wrong during the 
  30.             pregnancy, maybe you weren't 
  31.             careful enough, or maybe there's 
  32.             something wrong with you. Maybe 
  33.             you passed on a genetic defect 
  34.             without even knowing it.

  36.     Richard puts a hand on his wife's shoulder, and she 
  37.     takes it in her hand, but she won't be stopped.

  40.             Amsha...

  42.                     AMSHA
  43.             No. This is important.
  44.                 (to Bashir)
  45.             You can condemn us for what we 
  46.             did... say it was illegal or 
  47.             immoral whatever you want to 
  48.             say... but you have to understand 
  49.             that we didn't do it because we 
  50.             were ashamed... but because you 
  51.             were our son and we loved you.

  53.     Bashir looks into her bright and tear-filled eyes for 
  54.     a moment... and knows that at least in this issue, 
  55.     he's misjudged them. His expression softens and he 
  56.     nods at last. Amsha reaches out to her son... touches 
  57.     his face as only a mother can and then they hug for a 
  58.     long moment. They haven't resolved their problems, but 
  59.     at least the air's been cleared.
