  4. 50   INT. DEFIANT - ENGINE ROOM - UPPER LEVEL (OPTICAL)

  6.     A PLASMA CONDUIT has broken loose from the floor and is 
  7.     spewing a violent continuous blast of PLASMA EXHAUST up 
  8.     into the room -- a torrent of green energy crackling 
  9.     with deadly power. On the upper level, Eddington has 
  10.     been wounded, but he's trying to drag the unconscious 
  11.     N.D. Engineer seen earlier to safety. One of the 
  12.     damage control officers takes the unconscious man from 
  13.     Eddington and pulls him out into the corridor.
  14.  
  15.     Dax looks around and sees Lenara lying unconscious on 
  16.     the far side of the room. The plasma fire separates 
  17.     Dax from Lenara -- there doesn't seem to be any way to 
  18.     get to her. Eddington has to shout over the roar of 
  19.     the exhaust.
  20.  
  21.                     EDDINGTON
  22.                 (yells) 
  23.             It's out of control.
  24.                 (re: extinguisher) 
  25.             We can't put it out with those. 
  26.             We'll have to vent the entire 
  27.             compartment out into space.
  28.  
  29.                     DAX
  30.                 (yells) 
  31.             No. Lenara might still be alive.
  32.  
  33.                     EDDINGTON
  34.             There's no way to get to her.
  35.  
  36.     Dax thinks furiously.
  37.  
  38.                     DAX
  39.             How long will a level eight 
  40.             forcefield last in here?
  41.  
  42.                     EDDINGTON 
  43.             Not long with that plasma fire. 
  44.             Four, five seconds at the most.
  45.  
  46.     She moves to a wall panel.
  47.  
  48.                     DAX
  49.             I think I can get to her.
  50.  
  51.                     EDDINGTON 
  52.             Dax, if we don't contain this 
  53.             thing now, it's going to set off the 
  54.             warp core.
  55.  
  56.     Dax finishes working at the panel.
  57.  
  58.                     DAX
  59.             I know. Just give me ten seconds 
  60.             and then vent the compartment.
