  12.     Jake grows quiet for a moment, as if considering whether or 
  13.     not to say something...

  16.             What I mean is... yesterday I got a 
  17.             communication from the Pennington 
  18.             School in New Zealand... they offered 
  19.             me a writing fellowship...
  20.  
  21.     Sisko couldn't be more taken by surprise.  He's both proud 
  22.     and distressed, because taking it would mean Jake's leaving 
  23.     DS9.

  25.                     SISKO
  26.             That's terrific, Jake... I... didn't 
  27.             even know you'd applied...

  29.                     JAKE
  30.             I didn't really.  What happened is, 
  31.             I showed a story I wrote to Mrs. 
  32.             O'Brien... I guess she liked it 
  33.             because she showed it to a friend of 
  34.             hers who knows someone at the school 
  35.             and --

  37.     Jake is cut off when one of the winches suddenly groans and 
  38.     gives way... it starts to UNCRANK rapidly, and just as Sisko 
  39.     hurries toward it the ship suddenly leans hard to one side, 
  40.     throwing him against the bulkhead...
