  7.             They'll remember.  It'll take 
  8.             time, and it won't be easy, but 
  9.             eventually people in this century 
  10.             will remember how to care.

  12.                     BASHIR
  13.             But it makes you wonder, doesn't it?  
  14.             Are humans really any different than 
  15.             Cardassians... or Romulans?  If push 
  16.             came to shove, if something disastrous 
  17.             happened to the Federation, and we 
  18.             got frightened enough, or desperate 
  19.             enough, how would we react?  Would 
  20.             we stay true to our ideals... or 
  21.             would we just end up... here... right 
  22.             back where we started?

  24.                     SISKO
  25.             I don't know.  But as a Starfleet 
  26.             officer, it's my job to make sure we 
  27.             never have to find out.
  28.  
  29.     They round the corner and come upon a group of GHOSTS, who 
  30.     are in the middle of beating up on a confused-looking dim.  
  31.     The ghosts are tough-looking and better fed and dressed than 
  32.     the rest of the people on the street, the top of the food 
  33.     chain.  They throw the dim to the pavement.
  34.  
  35.     B.C., the leader of this particular group of Ghosts, is a 
  36.     wiry, tightly wound man in his late twenties.
  37.  
  38.                         B.C.
  39.                     (to another ghost)
  40.             Get his food card.
  41.  
  42.     The dim, who's had the wind knocked out of him by the fall, 
  43.     tries to huddle up and protect himself.
  44.  
  45. 32   ANGLE ON SISKO AND BASHIR
  46.  
  47.     Looking in shock and revulsion at what's going on.  Sisko 
  48.     can tell that Bashir wants to intervene, but holds him back 
  49.     with a look.
  50.  
  51.                     SISKO
  52.                 (sotto voice)
  53.             Remember, Doctor, we can't interfere.
  54.  
  55.     B.C. looks over and sees the look on Bashir's face.
