  13.             That's strange.

  15.     O'Brien calmly makes a small adjustment to the controls.

  17.                     KIRA
  18.             What's wrong?

  20.                     O'BRIEN
  21.                 (as he works)
  22.             Nothing serious.  Just a power 
  23.             fluctuation in the annular confinement 
  24.             beam.
  25.                 (something goes wrong)
  26.             Hold on.  That's impossible.

  28.                     KIRA
  29.             What happened?

  31.                     O'BRIEN
  32.             I stabilized the beam... but according 
  33.             to our sensors they never materialized 
  34.             at their destination.
  35.                 (a beat)
  36.             They're just... gone.

  44.     Sisko is laying unconscious on a sidewalk.  His combadge is 
  45.     missing from his uniform, as are his insignia pips.  Suddenly 
  46.     he's prodded in the ribs by a HIGH TECH POLICE SHOTGUN.  
  47.     These days it would be cutting edge technology, but by the 
  48.     early days of the twenty-first century it's standard issue.
