  9.             Dukat, are you listening to me?

  11.                     GUL DUKAT
  12.                 (quiet)
  13.             I'm sorry Commander.  I was thinking 
  14.             about my son's birthday.
  15.  
  16.                     SISKO
  17.             What?
  18.  
  19.                     GUL DUKAT
  20.                 (still staring at 
  21.                 console)
  22.             This is my son's eleventh birthday.  
  23.             I'd promised to take him to the 
  24.             amusement center in Lakarian City.  
  25.             He's always wanted to go and I've 
  26.             never had the time.  I told him, 
  27.             this year will be different... this 
  28.             year I'll make the time.
  29.  
  30.     Sisko moves closer to him... sits down in a nearby chair.

  32.                     SISKO
  33.             I've had the same experience with 
  34.             Jake.  They never understand... all 
  35.             we can do is hope that one day when 
  36.             they're older, they'll look back and 
  37.             say, "Now I understand... now I know 
  38.             why he did that."

  40.     Dukat looks up at Sisko... and for a moment it looks like 
  41.     the two men might've shared something... but then Dukat's 
  42.     face turns hard.

  44.                     GUL DUKAT
  45.             When my son looks back on this day, 
  46.             the only thing he'll remember is 
  47.             that a Federation officer on a 
  48.             Federation ship invaded his home... 
  49.             and kept his father away from him on 
  50.             his eleventh birthday.  And he won't 
  51.             look back with forgiveness... he'll 
  52.             look back with hatred.
