Transcription: Everyone fanned out in search of vaulted rooms with solid walls, some choosing alcoves created within the thick walls, others preferring ground floors or basements. In some areas, veritable bastions arose with sandbags piled up to form a bulwark against the bomb blasts. The Antiquities Department was transformed into a fortress. The Greek Hall became a pillbox where statues from neighboring galleries were crowded together. The victory of Samothrace disappeared under a of planks that wore a thick armor of sandbags.
