  17. -> WizManager's Buttonbar uses powerful techniques to provide
  18.    speed and innovative features. This can push certain Windows
  19.    video drivers for ACCELERATED video boards to the edge. Make
  20.    sure you have the latest video drivers for your video board.
  21.    Standard Windows video drivers (VGA and SuperVGA) cause no
  22.    problem.

  24.    If you encounter General Protection Fault (GPF) error
  25.    messages while running WizManager, start the Windows Setup
  26.    program and change the video driver of your system to a
  27.    standard Windows video driver (VGA or Super VGA for example)
  28.    and determine whether General Protection Fault messages still
  29.    appear. If they don't, update the video drivers you were
  30.    using to the latest available version.

  33.    [AddOns] section:

  35. Extensions to File Manager are not executable files (EXE) but
  36. Dynamic Link Libraries (DLL) which are automatically loaded by
  37. File Manager when the latter is started and destroyed when File
  38. Manager is closed.
  39.  
  40. How does File Manager 'know' or recognize extensions?
  41.  
  42. File Manager gets all the necessary information by reading its
  43. initialization file WINFILE.INI (not WIN.INI!) which is located
  44. in the Windows directory. The different data in WINFILE.INI is
  45. sorted by sections (a section title is enclosed in square
  46. brackets [...]). The section of interest for recognizing and
  47. loading extensions is called [AddOns]. This is where extension
  48. paths are declared, one per line, in the form (example):
  49.  
  50.            [AddOns]
  51.            Extension1=PathToExtension1\extension1.dll
  52.            Extension2=PathToExtension2\extension2.dll
  53.  
  54. Each extension will add a top-level menu to File Manager. The
  55. documentation for the Windows File Manager Extender Interface
  56. states that 5 top-level menus may be added to the File Manager
  57. menu. However, due to what appears to be a bug in Windows File
  58. Manager, the fifth menu item does not work properly. Any
  59. command selected from the fifth menu item becomes confused with
  60. the adjacent File Manager "Window" menu, and the corresponding
  61. command from the "Window" menu is executed instead.

  63. What this means is simple:
  64. DO NOT DECLARE MORE THAN 4 EXTENSIONS IN THE [AddOns] section!

  66. You may presently be using File Manager Extensions, like
  67.  
  68.            - DOS 6 Tools (Microsoft)
  69.            - MetzLaunch (Metz TaskManager)
  70.            - NDW (Norton Desktop)
  71.            - File Commander (Wilson WindowWare)
  72.            - FExtend (BarbarSoft)
  73.            - or others.

  75. As File Manager limits you to 4 extensions, it is up to you to
  76. "keep up" and maintain the [AddOns] section of WINFILE.INI. If
  77. you have more than 4 declarations under [AddOns], simply type a
  78. ';' (without the quotes) at the beginning of the line(s) you
  79. want File Manager to ignore. This lets you keep all the
  80. declarations in case you decide later to alter your choices and
  81. start only the ones you need.

  83. During the installation of WizManager, the [AddOns] section of
  84. WINFILE.INI is updated to include the WizManager library path.
  85. This declaration is appended at the end of the [AddOns]
  86. section. If more than 3 other declarations exist above
  87. WizManager's line, proceed as explained above to cancel out one
  88. or more declarations (use Notepad.exe for example to edit
  89. WINFILE.INI, and modify the [AddOns] entries only).

  95. Mijenix will soon port WizManager to the 32-bit world of
  96. Windows NT. However, the WizManager version you have installed
  97. is a set of 16-bit DLL's written for Windows 3.10 and Windows
  98. for Workgroups (WFW); it will not work under Windows NT.
