  36. Network users
  37. -------------
  38. The current version of the Setup program supplied by Microsoft will not
  39. install Magic Squares onto a networked machine.  This is because the Setup
  40. program is unable to find the location of the \WINDOWS\SYSTEM directory.
  41. Microsoft have promised a fix for this problem.  For a workaround please see
  42. the section on manual installation.

  45. Installation problems
  46. ---------------------
  47. All installation problems seem to occur when version 3.0 of Windows is in
  48. use.  There is a known problem with some early versions of LZEXPAND.DLL
  49. supplied with Windows 3.0.  Also, installation problems arise when some
  50. DLL's are duplicated in both the \WINDOWS and \WINDOWS\SYSTEM directories.

  52. The setup program actually consists of two programs, the first copies across
  53. system files mainly required for the installation while the second program
  54. copies across the Magic Squares application files.  As both programs check
  55. that enough space is available on your hard disk for the application it's
  56. possible the installation may fail due to lack of disk space.  If this
  57. happens then you will have to free up some disk space before attempting to
  58. re-install.  However, if the installation fails with an error message similar
  59. to the following:-

  61.   Unable to copy A:\SETUP1.EX_ -> C:\WINDOWS\SETUP1.EXE
  62.  
  63. first of all copy the file LZEXPAND.EX_ from the Magic Squares diskette to
  64. your hard disk using the following command from the DOS prompt:-
  65.  
  66.   EXPAND /r A:\LZEXPAND.EX_ C:\WINDOWS\SYSTEM
  67.  
  68. N.B. this assumes you are installing from drive A, your Windows sub-directory 
  69. is named \WINDOWS & your hard disk is drive C.  If you are installing from
  70. drive B to drive D & your Windows sub-directory is named \WIN31 then the
  71. command would be:-

  73.   EXPAND /r B:\LZEXPAND.EX_ D:\WIN3\SYSTEM

  75. Re-run Setup from the File Manager.

  82. Make a directory on your hard disk for the Magic Squares files:-

  86. logon to drive A (B if you are installing from drive B) and copy the
  87. following files from the Magic Squares diskettte to your hard disk:-

  91.   EXPAND /r WMS.DA_ C:\WMS
