- The following is a list of 25 magic items for the CIS Gamer's forum project
- Rehack - Drew Wells 6/91

- 1) Ring of Malmir - When worn causes all damage in combat to be reversed. A
- monster attacking the player will eventually kill itself.

- 2) Stone of Expansion - When invoked it expands to block a normal
- passageway.

- 3) Edgar's Egg - Egg of an acid spitting snake, if thrown the yolk causes
- damage as if it were acid. If fire spell cast on egg the snake is hatched
- and attacks any nearby monsters. Eating this egg is bad news, you may as
- well drink draino.

- 4) Loadstone Ring - When worn this ring becomes an incredibly powerful
- magnet. If the player is wearing metal armor their hand will be stuck to
- the metal and be unusable. If the player puts a metal weapon in their hand,
- the weapon will become stuck. Dispel magic or remove curse will demagnetize
- the ring. On the plus side, the magnetic ring is powerful enough to draw
- other objects to it, like an iron key needed to solve a puzzle.

- 5) Hulah's Ring - No visible effect until thrown at a humanoid opponent,
- then it expands into a metal hoop and chokes the enemy.

- 6) Potion of Hirsuteness - Causes the user to become incredibly hairy.
- Effective as a disguise with stupid monsters. Vision is impaired. Hair
- falls out when ten minutes have passed. Also known as Sasquach Soda TM.

- 7) Widow's Shawl - Transforms the wearer into a frail old person for
- fifteen minutes. Strength and dexterity are lowered. The shawl can also be
- thrown onto a monster.

- 8) Ice Wand - Freezes enemy or object. Will freeze water for several
- minutes.

- 9) Bottle of water spout - Small intricately carved jade bottle when opened
- shoots a high pressure stream of water for several seconds. Can be used as
- a weapon or if frozen as a bridge over a pit. Melts quickly. Great fun for
- summer beach parties.

- 10) Singing Bowl - Simple bowl made of a brass-like alloy that will produce
- beautiful, haunting music when invoked. Attracts any characters that can
- hear just like a siren's song. The invoker is not affected by the music. It
- does no damage, but is often used as a trap.

- 11) Lormor's Eyes - Two shimmering cat's eye gems, when one gem is invoked
- the player sees as if he were looking out of the other gem. Useful for
- checking a long hallway or a large room. The eye can be thrown by hand or
- with a sling for more distance.

- 12) Statuettes of Irritated Minor Demons - Small stone statuettes of
- knee-high demons that look like gerbils with pitbull heads. Usually found
- in groups of two or more. Not very powerful, but when invoked they will
- fight for the invoker *if* the invoker has another of the statuettes with
- him. If he invokes all the statuettes, they will turn on the invoker and
- attack him viciously.

- 13) Scroll of Tornado - Will spin up and transport the user far away from
- his original location, but the player will be spinning too quickly to see
- where he is going. Leaves the player dizzy and confused. Good for escaping
- from a nasty monster.

- 14) Krip's whip - This leather whip has a snake's head at the tip. The
- snake will strike at the enemy when the whip is snapped.

- 15) Coca-Sola Potion - If swallowed will cause the drinker to glow
- brightly. If thrown will dispel a darkness spell. If no darkness spell is
- around it will create a light so bright that nothing can be seen for
- several squares around it.

- 16) Detee's Potion - Causes the quaffer to see illusory monsters. If he
- fights with them the damage done to him by the phantom monsters will
- disappear after the potion has worn off.

- 17) Popcornucopia - Horn o' plenty that spews 4-10 food packages. Half the
- food is good and the other half blows up when the player opens the package
- for eating. A detect magic spell has an 80% chance of revealing the
- explosive packages.

- 18) Ring of Fire - When worn causes the player's armor to turn black and he
- begins to sing like Johnny Cash. :^) Just kidding, the Ring of Fire causes
- a ring of fire to appear around the wearer when he is attacked. The fire
- will cause damage to any character walking through it, including the player
- himself. The ring lasts for several minutes and does not move with the
- player.

- 19) Potion of Wasamada'u - When quaffed causes large, sharp antlers to grow
- on the players head. They will push a helmet off when growing and a helmet
- cannot be worn while they exist. The horns are very strong and sharp and
- the player is imbued with the ability to use them like two enchanted
- swords. Two attacks are given, but both must be on the same opponent. The
- horns last about 15 minutes.

- 20) Staff of Marlboro - Produces a thick smoke screen allowing the player
- to sneak around or escape from monsters.

- 21) Gonzo's Arrow - When fired will turn around corners and pass through
- open doors to hit its target. Does damage like a high quality non-magical
- arrow.

- 22) Mawker Staff - Magically etches a unique pattern into the floor beneath
- the user. Pattern lasts one day. Each staff has nine patterns. Useful for
- mazes.

- 23) Scroll of Souzeer - Changes a monster into a pile of treasure. If the
- treasure is picked up it changes back into the same monster who is now a
- bezerker and has first attack.

- 24) Pundo's Crystal Ball - When used shows the user in combat with a monster.
- Several minutes later the monster appears and attacks the player. The ball
- is actually a summoning device and calls the monsters when it is used.

- 25) Scroll of Obmar - When the player uses the scroll it appears that he
- has become a superbeing. All of his attributes have doubled , his armor is
- much stronger and his weapon in hand is more powerful. When he attacks
- monsters it seems that he is doing tremendous damage to them, but they take
- many hits to kill. Actually, his attributes are all exactly the same as is
- his armor and weapons, just his perception has changed. His ego has been
- pumped up so that he believes all this is really happening. Lasts about an
- hour.
