  1. For BBS use, I am distributing the source for zoo 2.01 in three
  2. archives.  Z201SRC1.ZOO and Z201SRC2.ZOO together contain all the
  3. source files necessary to compile zoo 2.01 under VAX/VMS and several
  4. flavors of UNIX.  (Note that the files in these two archives contain
  5. lines terminated with linefeeds only.  You will need to do newline
  6. conversions before using them under MS-DOS.)  In addition MSSUP201.ZOO
  7. contains the support files needed to compile zoo 2.01 under MS-DOS
  8. with either Microsoft C 3.0 or Turbo C 1.0.  The contents of all
  9. three archives are shown below as listed by the "zoo lC" command
  10. using zoo 2.01 for MS-DOS.  Note that versions of Turbo C later than
  11. 1.0 use different function prototypes (in a valiant attempt to track
  12. changes in the ANSI C standard), so you may with to undefine
  13. LINT_ARGS to make Turbo C stop complaining.

  15. I am distributing these as zoo archives rather than arc archives. 
  16. This means that to extract them you must already have zoo running
  17. somewhere.  Fortunately everybody has access to an MS-DOS system
  18. somwhere, and the MS-DOS zoo.exe should be available wherever you got
  19. these source archives from.  I'm assuming that anybody who has any
  20. interest in compiling zoo already has the executable for MS-DOS (or
  21. AmigaDOS).  In any case, the first thing you should do, before
  22. porting zoo to a new system, is get the C source for booz (which
  23. should also be available where you got this package from) and get
  24. that running.  That way you will be able to extract zoo archives very
  25. quickly.  Then you can concentrate on getting the full zoo running.

  27. If you have a mainframe system with a C compiler on which you would
  28. like to get zoo running, you may wish to consider giving me a dial-up
  29. guest account to let me do the port.

  31. Due to many complaints about my copyright policy (which personally I
  32. think is rather generous) I recently announced "FreeZoo", which would
  33. have nearly all the features of zoo 2.01 but which would allow
  34. nearly-public-domain redistribution.  FreeZoo will be available in
  35. the near future but I do not have a precise timetable for it.

  37. To install, please read the "Latenews" and "Install" files carefully
  38. in the UNIX/VMS sources package and also (for MS-DOS) read
  39. "readme.1st" in the MS-DOS package.
