  4.     "discussion groups" and electronic publications which may be of
  5.     interest to library planners. Bailey issues his updates via the
  6.     PACS-L list.

  23. 1.0  Computer Conferences
  24.  
  25. Computer conferences are becoming an increasingly important form
  26. of communication for librarians.  There are a growing number of
  27. computer conferences of interest to librarians on BITNET and
  28. Internet.
  29.  
  30. Computer conferences on both BITNET and Internet are
  31. commonly called "lists."
  32.  
  33. Many BITNET lists utilize the Revised LISTSERV software, which
  34. was written by ERIC Thomas.  This software is referred to
  35. as the "list server."   You can obtain a directory of LISTSERV
  36. documentation by sending the following e-mail message to any list
  37. server:
  38.  
  39.      INFO ?
  40.  
  41. Once you know the name of the desired documentation file, send
  42. another INFO command to the list server to obtain the file.  For
  43. example, to get a file that describes searching the message
  44. database of a list, send the following command:
  45.  
  46.     INFO DATABASE
  47.  
  48. Internet lists use diverse software.  Contact the person who
  49. sponsors the list you are interested in to get further
  50. information about how the list software works.
