  7.             Installation of BGFT Version 3.03

  13.             If you received BGFT as a registered package there should be
  14.             the following files on the 720K distribution diskette:
  15.  
  16.                  INSTALL.EXE
  17.                  BGFTREAD.ME
  18.                  BGFT300A.EXE
  19.                  BGFT300B.EXE
  20.  
  21.             The last two files are the archived packages of BGFT version
  22.             3.03 programs and files. They are not 'executable' in the
  23.             normal sense; they contain files that are extracted during
  24.             the installation process. There are two files so that they
  25.             can be distributed more easily. You should have received one
  26.             720K diskette with the above four files.
  27.  
  28.             BGFT300A.EXE contains all the files necessary for a
  29.             'minimal' installation of BGFT on a hard drive. If you are
  30.             new to BGFT, this will be all you need to get going. It may
  31.             suit you for a final configuration too. If you choose the
  32.             minimal installation initially and then want the use the
  33.             floppy based file buffer, the files for Microsoft Windows
  34.             3.1, or the files to run BGFT with other communications
  35.             products later, then you can simply run the installation
  36.             program again.

  38.             The following files are in BGFT300A.EXE:
  39.  
  40.                  BGFTREAD.ME    This file.
  41.                  BGFT.EXE       The main BGFT user interface.
  42.                  BGFT.DLG       A sample dialing directory.
  43.                  BGFT.DOC       The BGFT documentation.
  44.                  BGFT300.HLP    Help screens for BGFT.EXE.
  45.                  BGFT300.SCR    Other screens for BGFT.EXE.
  46.                  BGFTFB.EXE     Hard drive C: file buffer maker.
  47.                  BGFTHDZM.COM   Hard drive communication resident.
  48.                  BGFTORDR.FRM   Order form to register BGFT package.

  50.             BGFT300B.EXE contains all the other files. If you want the
  51.             full installation, both the BGFT300A.EXE and BGFT300B.EXE
  52.             files will be needed.
  53.  
  54.             INSTALL.EXE: This is the installation program. A 720K
  55.             diskette distribution will have INSTALL.EXE, BGFT300A.EXE,
  56.             and BGFT300B.EXE on the one diskette.

  60.             BGFTREAD.ME: This is a file with information you should read
  61.             for up-to-date information not in the documentation.
  62.  
  63.             Put the registered distribution 720K diskette in the drive
  64.             supports that media; for the moment we will assume that is
  65.             Drive A:.

  67.             To run the installation program go to drive A: by entering
  68.

  73.                  INSTALL
  74.  
  75.             Follow the instructions and the installation will be
  76.             completed in a few minutes. The installation allows you to
  77.             quit at any time and start again, if desired.

  79.             The documentation, BGFT.DOC, contains more information on
  80.             the installation and other details if you need them.

  82.             Unregistered Package
  83.             --------------------
  84.             Registered users can skip this section.
  85.  
  86.             If you download BGFT as a Shareware evaluation package you
  87.             should have the two files BGFT303A.ZIP and BGFT303B.ZIP. Be
  88.             sure that you start off in a directory that is not called,
  89.             '\BGFT300', since the construction of this directory is part
  90.             of the installation itself; it is recommended that you keep
  91.             all the files in the same directory.

  93.             BGFT303A.ZIP allows a minimal hard drive installation of
  94.             BGFT; you may want to use the minimal installation just to
  95.             try BGFT out.
  96.  
  97.             You should use the appropriate unarchiving program to
  98.             extract the above files. For ZIP files you would enter
  99.  
  100.                  PKUNZIP BGFT303A.ZIP
  101.  
  102.             This will extract the three files: INSTALL.EXE, BGFT300A.EXE
  103.             and BGFTREAD.ME. Do the same to BGFT303B.ZIP to produce the
  104.             file, BGFT300B.EXE.
  105.  
  106.             You start the installation by entering:
  107.  
  108.                  INSTALL
  109.  
  110.             Follow the instructions and the installation will be
  111.             completed in a few minutes. INSTALL allows you to quit at
  112.             any time and start again, if desired.

  116.             Users are expected to register BGFT; see the documentation.

  118.             Previous Users
  119.             --------------
  120.             If you are a previous Version 2.x user of BGFT and plan to
  121.             use you floppy diskette file buffer, you should reformat
  122.             your regular 'BGFT' diskette with DOS and re-initialize the
  123.             file buffer with BGFT.EXE before using the new version.
  124.             Also, after you have installed the BGFT files into the
  125.             directory \BGFT300 you can copy your previous dialing
  126.             directory into \BGFT300 and it will be ready for use. The
  127.             BGFT Version 3 dialing directories have a different format
  128.             than for earlier versions but the older ones can still be
  129.             read by version 3.

  131.             Previously registered users of version 2.x should contact
  132.             Dirac Systems about their free upgrades to version 3 of
  133.             BGFT.
  134.  
  135.             Registrants of version 3.x of BGFT can use the upgrade
  136.             utility found on their distribution disk to copy their
  137.             registration serial numbers to the new versions.

  139.             Trying It Out
  140.             -------------
  141.             To run BGFT for the first time it is recommended that you
  142.             follow the 'Trying it Out' example session (Section 3.2)
  143.             included in the documentation file, BGFT.DOC. Set up your
  144.             printer up for 60 lines per page and enter:
  145.  
  146.             PRINT BGFT.DOC
  147.  
  148.             to print out the documentation.
