  11.     What you Should Know to Use GoCIS
  12.  
  13.     Before installing and using GoCIS, you should have a basic
  14.     knowledge of your computer and the Windows environment.  In
  15.     particular, you should be familiar with the use of menus,
  16.     windows, and dialogue boxes and other controls typically used
  17.     in the Windows environment.
  18.  
  19.     You should be able to select items by highlighting them with
  20.     the arrow keys, or clicking on them with the mouse.  You must
  21.     also have an understanding of the operation of your modem.
  22.  
  23.     For more information about the Windows operating system, refer
  24.     to your Microsoft Windows User Guide.  For more information about
  25.     your modem, refer to the manual that came with your modem.

  28. System Requirements
  29.  
  30.     GoCIS requires the following minimum hardware and software
  31.     environment to run acceptably:
  32.  
  33.     An IBM PC, PS/2 or 100% compatible computer.
  34.  
  35.     A 386/20 CPU chip, (386-33 recommended).
  36.  
  37.     At least one floppy disk drive of 1.2MB 5.25" or a 720K 3.5"
  38.     floppy and a hard disk.
  39.  
  40.     At least 4 megabytes or more of RAM.  The more RAM you have the
  41.     better GoCIS will run.
  42.  
  43.     Approximately  2 megabytes of free space on your hard disk
  44.     drive in order to install the complete GoCIS product.  If you
  45.     already have some of the required DLL's the space will be
  46.     correspondingly less.
  47.  
  48.     Microsoft Windows 3.0 or 3.1 running enhanced mode installed on
  49.     your system.

  51.     An Asynchronous modem from 1200 - 14400 Baud.
  52.  
  53.     GoCIS may run on configurations that do not meet these minimum
  54.     requirements; however, the performance may not be acceptable.

  57. Downloading from CompuServe

  59.     The following is a list of the files necessary for downloading
  60.     from CompuServe:

  62.     The naming convention used is GCnnnX where:
  63.  
  64.         GC  ....... indicates GoCIS
  65.         nnn ....... indicates version
  66.         X   ....... Sequence

  68.     For example:

  70.     GC101A.ZIP .... Contains the installation notes 
  71.             for GoCIS Version 1.01

  76.     NOTE: For those of you UPGRADING from PRIOR releases

  88.             library.  (REQUIRED)

  102.             is present on your system.  If so, there
  103.             is no need to download this file.

  105.             This file is NOT INSTALLED by the installation
  106.             procedure.  Simply unpack this file into your
  107.             \WINDOWS\SYSTEM directory if you need it.

  110.     If you download GoCIS from CompuServe, copy the files
  111.     onto a 1.2 or 1.4 diskette and save them for future reference
  112.     prior to running the installation.

  115. FOR FIRST TIME INSTALLATIONS...
  116.  
  117. To INSTALL GoCIS create a directory called GoCIS and 
  118. unzip the WCnnnB...F files using the -d option of pkunzip
  119.  
  120.     For example:
  121.  
  122.       C:>MD \GoCIS
  123.       C:>CD \GoCIS
  124.  
  125.     + + + + IMPORTANT + + + +
  126.  
  127.     IT IS VERY IMPORTANT that you use the -d switch in order
  128.     for PKUNZIP to create and unpack the files into the 
  129.     appropriate subdirectories...
  130.  
  131.       C:\GoCIS>PKUNZIP -d A:GCnnn*.ZIP
  132.  
  133.  
  134.     After you have installed the files you will find a Windows 
  135.     GoCIS.GRP file that you can add to PROGMAN in the \GoCIS 
  136.     directory.  To do so go to Windows progman and select 
  137.     FILE/NEW..  
  138.  
  139.     For the description enter...     GoCIS
  140.     For the group file enter....     C:\GoCIS\GoCIS.GRP
  141.  
  142.     If you have placed GoCIS on a differnt drive or directory 
  143.     than C:\GoCIS you will have to modify the GoCIS program 
  144.     group items by holding down the alt-key and double-clicking 
  145.     on the program items.  Then correct the command line and or 
  146.     working directory as appropriate.
