  7. As I was openning a DOS prompt in Windows to use the 'whereis' utility 
  8. that was written for DOS, I thought it that a tool was needed to look for
  9. files from Windows directly.  Hence, the berth of Findem.  
  10.  
  11. Findem searches your drives for a file you give it.  
  12.  
  13. Description:
  14. ──────────────
  15. Findem is a utility that does one task and does it well.  You simply
  16. enter a filename (with wildcards), press <ENTER>, and it will find all 
  17. the occurances of that file on your system.  
  18.  
  19. I have given Findem the capabilities to search all the drives in your system
  20. (an improvement over 'whereis' - which only would search the local drive).
  21. You can select which drives it will search.  It will even search network 
  22. drives.
  23.

  28. To Install
  29. ────────────
  30. From a DOS prompt, type A:\INSTALL (or B:\INSTALL if you are using your 
  31. B: drive).  the installation program will install the package onto the 
  32. drive and directory of your choice.

  34. Add the Findem icon to one of your groups in Windows by:
  35.  
  36.     From the File Menu, select:     New...  
  37.             
  38.                           Choose:         Program Item
  39.  
  40.     Enter the Following Information:
  41.  
  42.         Description:  Findem
  43.         Command Line: C:\FINDEM\FINDEM.EXE   
  44.            (replace with the correct drive and directory for findem)
  45.         Working Directory: C:\FINDEM
  46.            (replace with the correct drive and directory for findem)
  47.         Shortcut Key: NONE
  48.  
  49.     Click <OK>.  
  50.        
  51.     You are now ready to use Findem!

  55. How to Use:
  56. ────────────
  57. Double click on the icon to start Findem.  Use the "Options" pull down  
  58. to select the drives you want to search.  Enter the name of the file
  59. you are looking for, using wildcards when needed.

  61.         Wildcard filename examples:  
  62.  
  63.             FILENAME:               WHAT IT LOOKS FOR:
  64.             ------------------------------------------
  65.             filename.ext            The file FILENAME.EXT                                    
  66.             test.*                  Files with name TEST and 
  67.                         any extension
  68.             *.doc                   Files with any name that 
  69.                         have DOC extensions
  70.                         test.dc?                Files with name=TEST and
  71.                                                 ext=DC plus any other character
  72.

  74. * and ? are wildcard characters for DOS filenames.

  77. To start the search, simply press the "Find'em" button.

  79. The list that is generated can be copied into Window's clipboard to use in
  80. other programs.
