  2.         Welcome to The Sound Site CDROM.  This CDROM is being offered as a 
  3. one-stop shop for music compositions.  Basically the contents of this disc 
  4. fall into three categories.  First, of course, music files.  There are no 
  5. .WAV, .SND, .VOC, or other digitized music for the simple reason that often 
  6. the music is from copyrighted sources, and we don't want to get into trouble.  
  7. The music files are left UNCOMPRESSED on the CDROM, to allow people to play 
  8. the files directly off of the disc.  This feature was inspired by our own 
  9. desire to get our massive MOD collections off of our hard drives in a manner 
  10. in which they were still nevertheless playable (unlike our current tape 
  11. archives).

  13.         Second, there are various players, editors, and music and sound 
  14. utilities.  The various programs are stored in one of a few formats.  PC 
  15. programs are stored in .ZIP format.  Included are unzip programs for the PC.
  16. Mac programs are stored in .HQX format.  Unix programs are stored in tar
  17. format.  Most Unix systems have untar utilities.  Amiga software is stored
  18. in LHarc format, and there are LH-unarcers for the Amiga in the \UTILS
  19. directory.

  21.         Third, this disc contains miscellaneous information files such as
  22. MOD lists, FTP site information, and back issues of The Sound NewsLetter.
  23. These are also uncompressed so that they too can be read right off of the 
  24. disc.

  26.         For more information about the files on this disc and the 
  27. organization of the disc directories, check out the files in \00README.
  28. Indexes for the various music files and players are contained in the 
  29. directory \00INDEX.  Players, editors, and other miscellaneous sound
  30. related programs are stored in the directory \PROGS.  Decompression and
  31. similar utility programs are stored in \UTILS.  Miscellaneous documents
  32. and information files are located in \INFO.

  36. individual files on this disc are owned by and fall under the copyright of
  37. their respective original authors.  Use and distribution of individual
  38. files fall under the restrictions of the original authors.

  40. all loss or damage resulting from the use of this product.  In no case
  41. shall Island CD Creations take responsibility for any loss or damage through 
  42. use of this product.

  45.         Basically, in non-legalese, you cannot have this disc replicated 
  46. without our permission.  Use of the files and programs on the disc require
  47. you to follow the restrictions of the author, including registering 
  48. shareware.  BUYING THIS DISC DOES NOT ALLOW YOU UNRESTRICTED USE OF
  49. THE PROGRAMS INCLUDED ON THE DISC, NOR DOES IT ALLOW YOU TO USE ANY OF THE
  50. MUSIC FILES FOR YOUR OWN PURPOSES OTHER THAN LISTENING TO THEM WITHOUT THE
  51. ORIGINAL AUTHOR'S PERMISSION.
  52.         Loss or damage, such as if the disc self-destructs in five seconds,
  53. or if it morphs into a T-1000 and wrecks havok with your living room, or
  54. one of the player programs accidentally reformats your hard disk, would be
  55. a shame, but not our fault.  No pain, no gain.
