  15.       4 THINGS YOU SHOULD KNOW ABOUT THIS SOFTWAREVAULT CD-ROM

  18.       1. There are  a few ways you can  run SoftwareVAULT from
  19.          either the  CD-ROM directly or from  your hard drive,
  20.          depending  on your  preferences. Read  below to learn
  21.          your options.
  22.  
  23.       2. The  SoftwareVAULT Librarian is  available in both  a
  24.          DOS   version   (SVL.EXE)   and   a  Windows  version
  25.          (SVLWIN.EXE).  Instructions on  how to  use these are
  26.          included below.

  28.       3. This product is  a collection of "shareware" programs
  29.          and resources. Please  contact the respective authors
  30.          of each  program to register your  copy and to obtain
  31.          specific technical support for any program.
  32.  
  33.       4. Digital  Impact will offer technical  support for the
  34.          SoftwareVAULT Librarian  program, but is  not able to
  35.          offer  help  with  the  individual shareware programs
  36.          included on this disc.

  48.            YOUR OPTIONS ON HOW TO RUN SOFTWAREVAULT

  51.  The  rich contents  of this  SoftwareVAULT CD-ROM  are accessed  by
  52.  running the  program called the  SoftwareVAULT Librarian, which  is
  53.  available on the  CD-ROM in both a DOS version  (SVL) and a Windows
  54.  version (SVLWIN). Though you can  easily run the Librarian directly
  55.  from the  CD-ROM, you may  prefer to run  it from your  hard drive.
  56.  Running  the Librarian  from your  hard drive  may result in better
  57.  overall performance  and doing so allows  you to save user-specific
  58.  configuration data for use in subsequent sessions.

  60.     Important notes regarding the SoftwareVAULT Librarian

  62.     You will need at least 5.0 MB of free disk space to install the
  63.     SoftwareVAULT Librarian and its data files to your hard disk.

  65.     The DOS version of the Librarian includes certain additional
  66.     features not included in this version of the Windows Librarian.

  78.  How to run the SoftwareVAULT Librarian from the CD-ROM in DOS:

  80.  1.  Log on to the CD-ROM using your CD-ROM's drive letter.
  81.      e.g., from the DOS prompt type E: followed by the <ENTER> key.

  83.  2.  From the DOS prompt, type SVL <ENTER>.

  86.  How to run the SoftwareVAULT Librarian from your hard drive in DOS:

  88.  1.  Log on to the CD-ROM as directed above.

  90.  2.  From the DOS prompt, type INSTALL <ENTER>.

  92.  3.  Follow the instructions given by the INSTALL program.

  94.  4.  Once the SoftwareVAULT Librarian files have been installed on
  95.      your hard drive, you can run it by logging to the specified
  96.      hard drive directory and typing SVL <ENTER>.

  99.  How to run the SoftwareVAULT Librarian from the CD-ROM in Windows:

  101.  1.  Due to the CD-ROM being "READ-ONLY" media, you should follow
  102.      the instructions in the next section and install the Librarian
  103.      on your hard drive.

  106.  How to run the SoftwareVAULT Librarian from your hard drive in Windows:

  108.  Note:  You will need at least 5.0 MB of free disk space to install the
  109.         SoftwareVAULT Librarian and its data files.

  111.  1.  Run Windows as instructed in the Windows User's Guide.
  112.  
  113.  2.  From the Program Manager, select the Run... option in the File menu.
  114.  
  115.  3.  Using the Browse function, select the CD-ROM drive and the program
  116.      on the CD-ROM titled SETUP.EXE.
  117.  
  118.  4.  Follow the instructions given by the SETUP program.

  120.  5.  Once the SoftwareVAULT Librarian files have been installed on
  121.      your hard drive, and you have returned to the Program Manager in
  122.      Windows, you can run the Librarian from your hard drive while in
  123.      Windows as described next...

  125.  6.  While in the Program Manager, double-click on the "SVL" Program
  126.      Group and then double-click on the "SoftwareVAULT Librarian" icon.

  132.  
  133.  A CD-ROM  management  door  program   for  bulletin  board  sysops,
  134.  "ROMDSV", was included as freeware  on some earlier production runs
  135.  of The SoftwareVAULT CD-ROMs. It was distributed under license from
  136.  its  author, but  is no  longer  being  distributed due  to a  high
  137.  incidence of technical support problems. There are a number of such
  138.  shareware door programs available, and sysops are encouraged to use
  139.  the one of their choice.

  143.  TECHNICAL NOTE:
  144.  
  145.  Under certain network configurations,  you may experience a General
  146.  Protection  Fault issued  by Windows  and caused  by BWCC.DLL. This
  147.  fault  is  sometimes  caused  by  reading  this  text file, closing
  148.  notepad and  then clicking on  the "GO" button.  If this conditions
  149.  occurs, click  on the "CLOSE" button.  This will cause you  to exit
  150.  the setup program and return  to the Windows program manager. Rerun
  151.  "SETUP"  from the  SVL directory  on the  CD-ROM and  click on "GO"
  152.  without first reading that file.
