- TOGGLES
-
- A Toggle, in PC-TYPE+, is a key which can change an option to two or
- more different states, where that option will remain in effect until
- the key is pressed again.
-
- The status of most of the PC-TYPE+ toggles can be seen by looking
- toward the right side of the Command Line. Also, most of the toggles
- can be saved into PC-TYPE+ itself so they will become default
- settings. Even so, you may still change them from within the program.
-
- Each Toggle will be described briefly in this HELP file. You may try
- these toggles as you read this file to help familiarize yourself with
- them and their functions. However, since you cannot save files from
- inside the HELP files, the two toggles for creating .BAK files and
- confirming that you want to replace an existing file cannot be tested.
- The next screen presents a summary of all the Toggles.

- INSERT KEY
-
- When the Insert Toggle is On, an "I" will appear on the Command Line
- and the cursor shape will be large. When the Ins key is pressed
- again, the "I" will disappear from the Command Line and the cursor
- will be a line. The state of the Insert Toggle may be made a
- permanent default through the MODIFY DEFAULTS panel.
-
-
- WORD-WRAP TOGGLE (AltW)
-
- The Word-Wrap Toggle may be turned on and off by pressing AltW. When
- it is on, a "W" will appear on your Command line and words which will
- go beyond the right margin are moved in totality down to the next
- line. When Word Wrap is off, you will receive a warning message.
- The Word-Wrap Toggle may be set permanently in the MODIFY DEFAULTS
- panel (F8 F2) on the sub-panel labelled "Toggle Settings".
-
- Press the PgDn Key
-
- ENTER KEY TOGGLE (AltX)
-
- The Enter Key Toggle, switched by pressing AltX, has three states:
-
- (1) "X" - the cursor will be placed at the left margin of a newly
- inserted line whenever the Enter key is pressed.
-
- (2) "x" - the cursor will be placed below the leftmost character of
- the current line on a newly inserted line whenever the
- Enter key is pressed.
-
- (3) " " - the cursor will be placed at the left margin of the next
- line down whenever the Enter key is pressed. No new line
- will be inserted.
-
- The state of this toggle may be set permanently in the MODIFY DEFAULTS
- panel.
-
- Press the PgDn Key
-
- ASCII CHARACTER ENTRY (Scroll Lock)
-
- By holding down the Alt key and entering a decimal number on the
- number pad, you may produce any character in the ASCII character set
- when this toggle is turned on. It is turned on (and off) by pressing
- the Scroll Lock key. When the toggle is on, a "G" will appear on the
- Command Line. This toggle may be set as a permanent default through
- the MODIFY DEFAULTS panel. (NOTE: PROKEY users must press AltShift
- instead of just Alt.)
-
- CAPS LOCK KEY
-
- Pressing the Caps Lock key will cause letters typed to be upper case
- (unless a Shift key is pressed), or lower case (unless a Shift key is
- pressed). When this is true a "C" will be displayed on the Command
- Line. Pressing the Caps Lock key again will return your typing to
- lower case. There is no facility to save the state of the Caps Lock
- Toggle.
- Press the PgDn Key
-
- DRAG CHARACTER TOGGLE (Ctrl5 on the Number Pad)
-
- When this toggle is ON, a "D" will appear in reverse color on the
- Command Line. This implies that any time you press an arrow key, the
- current Fill Character will be placed in the screen position just
- vacated by the cursor key. The default state for this toggle is OFF.
-
-
- NUMERIC KEYPAD (AltCtrl NumLock)
-
- When this toggle is ON, an "N" will appear in reverse color on the
- Command Line. This implies that whenever you press a number pad key
- (without the Alt or Ctrl key pressed), you will get a number printed
- at the current cursor position. The default state of this toggle is
- OFF. While AltCtrl NumLock turns this toggle ON, just pressing
- NumLock will turn it off. This toggle may be deactivated with the
- NumLock Override toggle.
-
- Press the PgDn Key
-
-
- NUMBER OF SPACES BETWEEN SENTENCES (Alt1 Alt2)
-
- Normally you will want two spaces to be placed between sentences when
- you reformat a paragraph. However, under certain circumstances, it is
- handy to be able to use the reformat function so that only one space
- will be placed after a period. If you want one space between
- sentences, you may press Alt1. If you want two spaces between
- sentences, press Alt2.
-
- This setting is not visible on the Command Line, but it can be set and
- made to be a default in either mode in the MODIFY DEFAULTS sub panel
- labelled "Toggle Settings".

- BACKUP FILE TOGGLE
-
- When you save a file to disk with a file specification which already
- exists, you may or may not want to create a backup of the original.
- With this toggle, PC-TYPE+ provides you with three options:
-
- (1) It will always create a .BAK file
- (2) It will never create a .BAK file
- (3) It will ask you if you want to create a .BAK file.
-
- These options may be selected (and saved as your permanent default)
- through the MODIFY DEFAULTS panel.
-
- It should be noted that if you are in file A:TEXT and you press Shift
- F9 to save the file a number of times, a .BAK will only be created the
- first time. This way you cannot lose the original with multiple
- saves.
-
- Press the PgDn Key
-
- FILE EXISTS TOGGLE
-
- This toggle may be turned ON or OFF through the MODIFY DEFAULTS panel
- and may be set as your permanent default.
-
- Suppose you are editing the file A:\SUBDIR1\FILE1 and when you save it
- you change the name of the file (e.g., A:\SUBDIR2\FILE1 (or
- A:\SUBDIR1\FILE2). If the newly named file already exists and this
- toggle has been turned ON, PC-TYPE+ will inform you that the file does
- exist already and ask if you want to save it under the new name
- anyway.
-
- When the toggle is turned off, PC-TYPE+ will go ahead and save the
- file regardless of whether a file of the same name already exists or
- not.
-
-
-
- Press the PgDn Key
-
- NumLock OVERRIDE TOGGLE
-
- This toggle is provided primarily for those of you who own a "key
- tronics" keyboard. This toggle deactivates the CtrlAltNumLock /
- NumLock toggle. Since the "key tronics" keyboard has two key pads,
- there is no reason to deactivate the NumLock key. In fact, this
- keyboard will probably not operate as expected.
-
- The NumLock Override toggle is normally "on". However, if you own a
- "key tronics" keyboard you should turn it off by going to the "Toggle
- Settings" sub-screen of the MODIFY DEFAULTS screen (F8-F2).
-
- When you turn it off, the NumLock key will behave in the standard PC
- fashion.
