  1. This general-purpose definition is designed to catch a
  2. wide range of spam, with particular emphasis on:
  3.  
  4.   * Sexual content and penile enlargement ads
  5.   * Pharmacy and bogus health cures
  6.   * General unwanted commercial "services"
  7.   * Spam tools
  8.   * 419 scams (the "Nigerian funds transfer" scam)
  9.  
  10. This ruleset aggressively filters messages containing
  11. Lazy HTML (HTML with references to remote graphics): if
  12. you receive a lot of legitimate mail containing Lazy
  13. HTML, you will either need to whitelist the sources of
  14. that mail, or else remove the test.
  15.  
  16. This rulest also regards any message containing more
  17. than 25% non-ASCII characters as spam, so if you receive
  18. a lot of legitimate mail of this type you will need to
  19. take steps to deal with that.
  20.  
  21. We recommend that you do not directly modify this rule
  22. set, because subsequent versions of Mercury will usually
  23. attempt to update it. Instead, create a copy of this set
  24. and work on the copy, disabling this one.
