COMPUTER GENERATED VIEW OF MOUNT MCKINLEY
This unique presentation of Landsat MSS data of Mount McKinley
(Denali), Mount Foraker, and the Alaska Range was created using
Digital Elevation Model (DEM) data from the National Cartographic
Information Center of the U.S. Geological Survey
This perspective (or oblique) view was generated by draping
Landsat digital satellite MSS reflectance data over the digital
elevation data to simulate viewing the terrain from a specified
observation point 15,000 feet above the Tokositna River. The
perspective view image is derived by applying a perspective
transformation to the input scene, and then outputting those
points in the transformed image that are visible from the
observation point. Colors used in the published print are
similar to the "false" color-infrared shades seen on Landsat
color compsites generated from three black-and-white spectral
bands. Artificial blue sky was generated and added to the
perspective image.
This perspective view was produced by the EROS Data Center,
national Mapping Division, U.S. Geological Survey, Sioux Falls,
South Dakota, 57198.
Printed copies of this image can be ordered by requesting
