- Getting Started
- -----------------------------------------------------------------
-
-
- This document is for new CatScan users who are anxious to get
- CatScan up and running. Please refer to CATSCAN.DOC for
- additional information.
-
-
- -----------------------------------------------------------------
- Assumptions
- -----------------------------------------------------------------
-
-
- The information provided here is based on a few assumptions. The
- first is that you know how to run programs. Another is that
- you're running programs from the DOS prompt, and your logged
- directory is the one where CatScan and its associated files are
- stored. It also assumes you are using CatScan with TAPCIS.
-
-
- -----------------------------------------------------------------
- Minimum Installation Requirements
- -----------------------------------------------------------------
-
-
- To make CatScan work properly, you will need to install some
- information about your system. Enter the information using the
- CATALYST program.
-
- 1. Run CATALYST
-
- a. Type "3" to Install TAPCIS
-
- You must select item (1) here to install the path where
- TAPCIS.EXE and PARAMS.CIS reside or CatScan may write scripts to
- the wrong directory.
-
- By default, CatScan reports the time and cost to
- download files based on 2400 baud and $12.50 per hour. If your
- rates differ, select items (2) and (3).
-
- Press [Escape] to return to the main menu.
-
-
- b. If you have any files on your disk whose file
- extensions begin with the "@" character, such as MYFILE.@XX, then
- select item "(5) Miscellaneous", and "(1) Alter index character"
- to change it. The screen explains the procedure.
-
-
- Press [Escape] to return to the main menu.
-
-
-
-
-
-
- c. Select item (6) and type "Y" when asked if you want to
- save your changes.
-
-
-
- 2. Run CATSCAN.
-
- a. Press any key to pass the intro screen.
-
- b. Type "FNC". This enters all your *.CAT files in the
- TAPCIS <S>torage path to the file list. If your CAT files don't
- appear, then you probably installed the TAPCIS.EXE path
- incorrectly.
-
- c. At this point, you can move the highlighted scroll bar
- (with the cursor keys) to any file and type "L" to Load it for
- viewing, searching, etc.
-
-
-
- Remember that many CatScan screens provide help that explain what
- each menu item does. Press Function Key 1 [F1] to display it.
