You may notice that this documentation file is fairly short. The reason is
that the program really doesn't need any documentation. You start the program
by typing PAINTER and pressing Enter. That's about all you need to know.
When you get past the registration screen, you are given a picture to play
with. You can change the colors in this picture, go to the next or last
picture, erase the colors in the current picture, or exit the program.
If you choose to change the colors in the current picture, put the mouse
pointer on the color of your choice and press the left mouse button. The
current painting color will appear in the box at the bottom left of the screen.
You can then paint any area of the picture you want. The only exception is
that you cannot paint areas of the screen that are black.
If you want to start over and erase all the colors in the current picture,
click on the Erase box with the left mouse button and the picture will lose all
of its color.
When you are finished with the current picture, you can select another picture
or exit the program. To select the next picture, click on the Next box with
the left mouse button. To select the last or previous picture, click on the
Last box with the left mouse button.
This version of the program comes with 10 pictures that I have taken the
liberty of pre-coloring. Do not let my lack of taste discourage you, these
pictures can have any colors you want. Remember, to instantly clear away all
of the colors, just click on the Erase box with the left mouse button.
It is important to remember that the program saves the current colors whenever
you select another picture or exit the program.
To exit the program, click on the Bye! box with the left mouse button. You
will then be taken back to DOS if you have registered the program. If you
have not registered the program, you will be given a registration form that you
can print out.
If you choose to register the program, you will receive a disk with 25 new
pictures to paint. In addition, you will no longer have to press a random key
to start the program, and there will be no registration form at the end.
I hope you have fun with this. The program has no real tangible use, but kids
like it, and it gives you something interesting to do.
