Short Description:
------------------
From Scratch 2.10 is a very easy to use Windows recipe program written
in C++ that uses dBase compatible files. Unlimited number of
ingredients per recipe. Sophisticated printing uses any combination
of available fonts. Complete search capability, Nutrition
information, yield conversion, fractions, shopping list,
user-selectable options, and more. Requires Windows 3.1 and VGA.
Long Description:
-----------------
'From Scratch the recipe processor for Windows' version 2.10 is the
ultimate Recipe program. Written in C++, it uses Windows fonts, and
includes a toolbar and status bar like those found only in the most up
to date Windows programs. For all its power, From Scratch is extremely
easy to use, thanks to a clean, intuitive design. Recipes can be
displayed in either cardfile or list format, and function key and mouse
shortcuts as well as standard menu choices make the program a pleasure
to use.
From Scratch stores its data in dBase IV compatible files, which means
that you can access recipes stored by From Scratch using many other
programs - Q+E, Excel, Access, Paradox, dBase IV and Approach are just
a few. If you've ever spent time entering recipes into a program, and
then wished to switch to another, but had to re-type all the
information, you'll appreciate this feature.
You can store an unlimited number of ingredients per recipe, and the
number of recipes in your database is limited only by disk space.
Instructions and Notes fields each can hold up to 10,000 characters! You
can search by ingredient, keyword, nutrition information, through
instructions and notes, and more. There are fields for oven temperature,
origin, keywords, servings, and nutrition information, including
calories, cholestorol, sodium, and fats. Ingredient entries have a
special field for preparation, and can accept comments, dividing lines
(for recipes with ingredient sections - like 'dressing' and 'salad'), or
continuations from the previous ingredient line. The user can control
the order ingredients appear in the recipe. The entire recipe can be
copied to the Windows clipboard for use in other programs.
From Scratch offers the kind of print options that are normally only
found in a word processing program. Working in sections (such as title,
yield, instructions, ingredients, etc), you can specify any Windows
font, including italic, bold, underlining, and color. You can also
specify for any section to be centered, seperated by a decorative line,
or omitted from the printout entirely. You can also convert a recipe's
yield, print more than one recipe at once, print just the recipe titles,
print to a file, print in draft mode (useful for dot matrix printers), and
more.
A shopping list manager is included that allows you to print a
comprehensive shopping list, not just the items that appear in the
recipes.
A seperate utility (FSCONVRT.EXE, included in shareware, but distributed
as a separate ZIP file on most BBS systems) allows conversion from Meal
Master, Compu-chef, and Micro Kitchen companion recipes, as well as
allows swapping recipes with other From Scratch users, and prepares
merge files for users of Word for Windows and WordPerfect for Windows.
From Scratch requires Windows 3.1 and VGA. A printer and mouse are
optional, but recommended.
'From Scratch' is not crippled in any way. The shareware version has
one reminder screen.
