- program allows you to search regularly updated lists of books
- and magazines, bulletin board systems and user groups. You can
- reach shareware authors, distributors and consultants, and
- order software that helps with church management, Bible study
- and more.
-
- Start up
-
- It's a breeze to get up and running with the Christian Computer
- Survival Kit. Simply put the program disk in your "A" drive.
- From the DOS prompt, switch to the A drive by typing "A:"
- (don't use the quotes, of course) and pressing ENTER. Then

- that simple.
-
- Finding help
-
- The Survival Kit is easy to use and logically organized.
- Nonetheless, you might get hung up. If so, don't fret. Press
- F1.
-
- That key calls up the program's help function, a
- context-sensitive feature that recognizes where you are in the
- program and gives you information you need at that point. When
- you're through reading the help screen, press ESC to return to
- the program.
-
- Getting around
-
- The program opens with an introductory screen. Press any key to
- move beyond it and delve into the program's databases and
- features.
-
- Main menu
-
- Throughout the operation of the program, the main menu is
- displayed across the top of the screen. It lists four items:
- File, Search, Products and Resources.
-
-
- The program begins with the File section selected, leaving the
- File menu displayed. To move to other sections of the main
- menu, use the RIGHT or LEFT ARROW keys.
-
- There are other ways to go to a section of the main menu. At any
- time during the program, you can press the ALT key with the
- first letter of the main menu section you want. Pressing ALT
- and R, for example, instantly takes you to the Resources
- section.
-
- Or, you can press F10. And, if your computer is equipped with a
- mouse, you can choose a main menu section by moving the cursor
- onto the heading and clicking the mouse.
-
- Section menus
-
- The program also features several ways to select an item from a
- menu. You can use the UP and DOWN ARROW keys to move the light
- bar onto the item and press ENTER. If you have a mouse, you
- can move the cursor onto the item and click it.
-
- Notice that every menu item has one letter highlighted. You can
- select an item by pressing the highlighted-letter key.
-
- Many menu items also have shortcuts. By pressing one of the
- function keys, you can select the menu item without first
- calling up the menu. These shortcuts help speed your work once
- you learn which features you use most often. A list of all the
- menu shortcuts is listed at the back of this manual.
-
- What you'll find
-
- The best way to learn what the Christian Computer Survival Kit
- has to offer is to dive in and take a look. Don't worry about
- getting stuck. You can always press the ESC key to step
- backward out of any menu or service.
-
- So you don't miss anything, here's a guide to what each of the
- menus contains:
-

- Survival Kit's handy printing utility, and how to print a form
- to order from Biblesoft's collection of shareware. It's also
- the place to go to exit the program.
-
- Be sure to look under "Biblesoft Info." This is a multi-layered
- menu that includes a free-disk offer and information on
- starting a computer ministry. Two catalogs are available under
- the "Biblesoft catalogs" heading.
-
- BibleSoft Catalog
-
- One of the catalogs lists a variety of products intended to aid
- Christian computing enthusiasts. Computerized concordances help
- you study the words of the Bible. Expanded Strong's
- dictionaries make it easy to find the original definitions of
- Greek and Hebrew words. Indexes let you find every reference to
- any word you choose. You can find all of that and more under
- the BibleSoft catalog entry.
-
- Shareware Catalog
-
- The other catalog that's available lists scores of Christian
- shareware. Programs -- available from Biblesoft for a nominal

- cost is only $15.
-
- You can call up the registration form from the File menu. While
- it's on the screen, call up the File menu again and select
- "Print File." The program will print a more thorough
- explanation of the benefits of registration and the
- registration blank.
-
- Automated order form
-
- It's equally easy to contact vendors, distributors and others
- listed in the Survival Kit's databases. Fill out the automated
- order form and mail it to BibleSoft. The company will make your
- contacts for you.

- Search
-
- This is the Survival Kit's quick and powerful search facility.
- You can easily search for an address, product or word from any

-
- Here's how it works: Call up a database or file from one of the
- other main menu sections. With the database or file still on
- the screen, go to the search facility (select Find from the
- Search menu or press F5).
-
- The program prompts you to enter the search phrase. Enter a
- company name, a product, a city or any other word or phrase.

- first occurence of that search term.
-
- To continue the search, call up the Search menu again and choose

-
- When you're finished with a search, press ESC to leave the
- utility.
-
- Products
-
- Here's where you'll find a variety of goods and services.
- Selecting any of the items in this menu will give you a list
- of addresse of people or organizations involved in the
- Christian Computer industry.
-
- You can page through the lists with the PAGE UP and PAGE DOWN
- keys or scroll through them with the UP and DOWN ARROW keys.
- To quickly find a name, address or an organization affiliated
- with a particular product, use the program's SEARCH facility.
-
- Resources
-
- Like the products menu, this menu contains a list of databases.
- There's an entry for books, periodicals, user groups and
- telecommunications. The telecommunications selection contains
- a listing of Christian bulletin boards operating nationwide.
- Like the Products menu, you can scroll through the Resources
- menu or use the Search facility to find the name, addresse or
- topic you want.
-
- Printing
-
- Searching the databases gets you the information you want. The
- Christian Computer Survival Kit shows its strength when you
- need to put that information on paper. It's a snap.
-
- Checking the set-up
-
- Before you try to print anything or if you have trouble printing,
- you should check to be sure your computer is communicating with
- your printer. The computer and printer communicate through one
- of four communication "ports."
-
- Check your computer to find which communication port uses to talk
- to your printer. Then, from the File menu in the Survival Kit,
- select "Set Printer Port." It's set at 1 by default, since
- that's the port most frequently used for printer
- communications. You can enter another number, however, so it
- matches the number of the port your computer is using.
-
- Printing labels
-
- The first thing you need to do to print an address label is
- decide which address you want. Call up the database it's in,
- then scroll the address to the top line on the screen.
-
- Make sure your printer is ready to go. Then press F8. The program
- prints the address that's at the top of the screen.
-
- Printing a file
-
- To print an entire file, call up the database or file you want to
- print. Make sure your printer is ready and has enough paper. Then
- open the File menu and select "Print File." It'll be printed in
- its entirety.
