  13. If you try to run SYS.COM on a drive that has been compressed with the
  14. DoubleSpace, you may receive the following error message:
  15.  
  16.    SYS is unable to operate on target drive
  17.  
  18. To work around this problem, you must manually unmount the compressed
  19. drive before you run the SYS command to make drive C a bootable drive.

  21. More Information:

  23. This error usually occurs when an attempt is made to run SYS.COM on a
  24. hard disk drive that has been compressed with DoubleSpace and has
  25. failed because of corrupted MS-DOS files. DoubleSpace performs "drive
  26. swapping," giving the physical drive a drive letter other than C
  27. (typically the fifth letter after the system's last block device) and
  28. designating the compressed volume file as drive C. Even if you boot
  29. from a floppy disk, it is possible that DoubleSpace will mount the
  30. compressed drive and perform the drive swap. Because we cannot run
  31. SYS.COM on a DBLSPACE drive, SYS.COM generates the error message.
