  11. Summary:

  13. If you encounter problems running Microsoft Backup for MS-DOS or Microsoft
  14. Backup for Windows, use the steps in the following section to correct the
  15. problems.
  16.  
  17. Common problems caused by incorrect system configuration include:
  18.  
  19.  - Microsoft Backup appears to stop responding (hang) when run from the
  20.    MS-DOS Prompt under Windows.
  21.  
  22.  - Microsoft Backup reports problems accessing the second floppy disk
  23.    drive during the compatibility test when run from MS-DOS Prompt under
  24.    Windows. Microsoft Backup either displays the following error message or
  25.    continues to ask for the first disk after you have inserted the second
  26.    one.
  27.  
  28.       Diskette not properly seated.
  29.  
  30.  - Microsoft Backup for Windows causes Windows to close, leaving the
  31.    command prompt displayed on the screen.
  32.  
  33.  - Windows reports that the DMA buffer size needs to be increased to 64.

  35. Troubleshooting Microsoft Backup for Windows and Microsoft Backup
  36. -----------------------------------------------------------------

  38. 1. Microsoft does not recommend or support running the MS-DOS-based
  39.    version of Microsoft Backup (MSBACKUP.EXE) with Windows. If you choose
  40.    to do this, you should create a program information file (PIF) for
  41.    Microsoft Backup with the following settings:

  43.        Display Usage: Full Screen
  44.        Execution:  Exclusive
  45.  
  46. 2. Your CONFIG.SYS file should include the following settings (the values
  47.    shown are minimums):
  48.  
  49.        FILES=30
  50.        BUFFERS=30
  51.        STACKS=9,256
  52.  
  53. 3. The DMABufferSize= line should be set to at least 32 in the [386Enh]
  54.    section of the SYSTEM.INI file.
