  13.  ABOUT THE FILES THAT YOU'VE RECEIVED...

  16.         -- DR6UP2.EXE : This is a packed file which contains
  17.            the following two files:
  18.                                 
  19.               -- README.BAT : This batch file which describes how to
  20.                  install this update.
  21.                        
  22.               -- OPEN_UP.EXE : Another packed file which contains
  23.                  the remaining update files.

  26.  HOW TO USE OPEN_UP.EXE...
  27.                          
  28.         Unpacking this file with the proper syntax will generate all
  29.      the remaining files needed to update your DRDOS 6.0 operating
  30.      system.  It is a packed file just like the DR6UP2.EXE file which you
  31.      have already discovered.  OPEN_UP.EXE is a little different in that 
  32.      it contains files along with their stored path information.  Therefore
  33.      it is necessary to unpack this file with the "-d" option (case-
  34.      sensitive) to put the files it contains into their own proper 
  35.      sub-directories.

  37.      Type the following commands at the command line to proceed:
  38.                     
  39.                     MD UPDATE
  40.                     OPEN_UP -d UPDATE
  41.                     CD UPDATE
  42.                
  43.      To create a floppy disk which can be used to update floppy based 
  44.      systems or multiple licenses of DRDOS, prepare a low density diskette
  45.      using the FORMAT command and type the following:
  46.              
  47.                     OPEN_UP -d d:
  48.               
  49.               d:   -- Floppy drive with the newly formatted floppy disk
  50.

  52.  HOW TO USE THE FILES EXTRACTED FROM OPEN_UP.EXE...

  54.      *** BEFORE PROCEEDING, read the important notes in README First ***
  55.                      
  56.         You will notice that the OPEN_UP.EXE file also contains a file 
  57.      called UPDATE.BAT.  This is the batch file you will use to update your
  58.      DRDOS 6.0 operating system.  To update DRDOS, you will need to specify
  59.      on which drive DRDOS is already installed.  If this batch file does 
  60.      not find DRDOS 6.0 already on the machine you are using in the drive
  61.      you specify, it will not install the update.

  64.      -- FOR USERS WITH DRDOS ON A HARD DRIVE...
  65.                      
  66.            To update a DRDOS installation on a hard drive, you must specify
  67.         which bootable partition of your hard drive contains DRDOS and the
  68.         name of the sub-directory containing the DRDOS files.  The partition
  69.         will normally be the "C:" partition and the sub-directory, normally 
  70.         the "DRDOS" directory.  Now, you will need to log onto the drive and 
  71.         sub-directory containing the UPDATE.BAT file and the remaining files
  72.         which were extracted from the OPEN_UP file, and type:
  73.               
  74.                          UPDATE d: path
  75.               
  76.               d:   -- The drive on which DRDOS is installed.
  77.               path -- The path which contains the DRDOS files.
  78.

  80.      -- FOR USERS WITH DRDOS ON A SET OF FLOPPIES...
  81.                  
  82.            You can update a DRDOS installation on a set of floppies in much
  83.         the same way as you can on a hard drive.  The difference is that
  84.         the UPDATE.BAT file needs only to know which floppy drive contains
  85.         the first DRDOS operating system diskette to be updated.  So, you 
  86.         will need to log onto the drive and sub-directory containing the 
  87.         UPDATE.BAT file, and type:
  88.                     
  89.                          UPDATE d:
  90.                 
  91.               d: -- The floppy drive containing the DRDOS 6.0 STARTUP DISK.
  92.                       
  93.         NOTES ON FLOPPY INSTALLATION: 
  94.            -- The UPDATE.BAT file will prompt you for each of the other
  95.              disks as they are needed.
  96.            -- Digital Research does not recommend updating your original
  97.              floppy disks.  Use UPDATE on a backup set.
  98.            -- Users with two floppy drives only on their machine should
  99.              have the UPDATE.BAT file and the others unpacked from the 
  100.              OPEN_UP file in one drive, and run the batch file from
  101.              that drive specifying the other as the drive containing the
  102.              floppies to be updated.

  105.  WHAT TO DO IF YOU RUN INTO TROUBLE...

  107.      -- IF THE OPEN_UP.EXE FILE "DOESN'T WORK"...
  108.         -- Check that you've entered the command correctly and that any
  109.           options are used as specified above.
  110.         -- Check the utility file's integrity by typing:
  111.                      
  112.                     OPEN_UP -t
  113.                      
  114.         -- If the integrity of the utility file is bad, you may have to
  115.           attempt downloading the DR6UP2.EXE file again.

  117.      -- IF THE DRDOS UPDATE.BAT FILE "DOESN'T WORK"...
  118.         -- Use the on-line help which is available from the UPDATE.BAT
