  6.         TROUBLESHOOTING TERMINAL INSTALLATION - MULTIUSER DOS

  8. 1. Make sure the user has the Multiuser DOS Business Update of
  9. September, 1991. For upgrade information contact 1-800-NETWARE.
  10.  
  11. 2. Cable is frequently a problem.  A 5-wire null modem cable is needed.
  12. The pin configuration is shown on page B-3 of the Multiuser DOS User
  13. Guide.  It is highly recommended that the protocol be DTR/DSR.

  15. 3. For troubleshooting purposes ONLY, the user could construct a cable
  16. with the following configuration:

  18.         25 pin PC end           Terminal end (DB25)
  19.  
  20.         Transmit    2  -------- 3     Receive
  21.         Receive     3  -------- 2     Transmit
  22.         Ground      7  -------- 7     Ground
  23.  
  24. Using this cable, and setting the protocol (both in SETUP and on the
  25. terminal) to NONE, one will be able to see whether any signal at all is
  26. going from the main CPU to the terminal.  (Protocol may be referred to
  27. as Flow Control.)

  29. 4.  Another good test of signal transmission is to define the port into
  30. which the malfunctioning terminal is plugged as a Printer/Aux port (so
  31. the terminal is treated by the system as a serial printer), in SETUP.
  32. Reboot, select the correct printer number (from another terminal) using
  33. the PRINTER or PRINTMAP command on the working terminal, and type DIR >
  34. PRN.  The directory should "print" on screen of the terminal in
  35. question.

  37. 5. Refer to Chapter 3 in the Multiuser DOS User Guide for setup
  38. specifications.

  40. 6. If a PC or terminal is having trouble at higher baud rates, set the
  41. baud rate (in Setup and on the terminal/PC) to 9600.
  42.  
  43. 7. In Setup, make sure that the question "Does this terminal support
  44. graphics" is answered correctly.  For standard monochrome terminals,
  45. such as a Wyse 60/150, the answer is NO.  For a Wyse 370 to support
  46. graphics, its personality must be set to GR/CGA.  A PC in Terminal
  47. Emulation mode can be configured for color graphics use, by selecting
  48. Emulation=PC/CGA in PCTERM.
