- AT Tools TECHNICAL NOTES SAPPHIRE SOFTWARE
-
-
- Includes:
- ATCLKSET Version 1.0
- ATSOFTAB Version 1.1
-
- These two utilities are designed to make using your AT just a
- bit easier.
-
- ATCLKSET - Technical notes
-
- The simple days have gone. Newspapers no longer costs a
- dime, tax forms are more complex than ever, and "falling
- back" and "springing forward" for the bi-annual time changes
- is as much work as the axioms make it sound. We can't help
- you with newspapers or tax forms, but changing your AT clock
- can be as easy as pulling out and twisting a watch stem.
-
- AT CLOCK SET is a non-resident program that allows you to set
- your AT clock from any DOS prompt. It does away with having
- to go into Diagnostics and Set-up just to change the time.
- Whether your moving to a new time zone, adjusting to Daylight
- Savings Time, or purchasing a new battery, this can be a real
- "time" saver.
-
- There are actually two capabilities to AT CLOCK SET.
- First, you can take the DOS clock and copy it into the CMOS
- hardware clock. This allows you to set your battery-backed
- clock to any time. Second, you can perform the reverse
- operation and set the software clock from your battery-backed
- CMOS clock. (This allows you to re-synchronize your DOS
- clock from CMOS.)
-
- To run AT CLOCK SET and set the CMOS (hardware) clock,
- type the following at any DOS prompt:
-
- ATCLKSET CMOS
-
-
- To run AT CLOCK SET and set the DOS (software) clock, type
- the following at any DOS prompt:
-
- ATCLKSET DOS
-
- You must enter either CMOS or DOS with the command to run
- AT CLOCK SET. If you do not, AT CLOCK SET displays an error
- and will not operate.
-
- IMPORTANT
-
- If you're planning to change the CMOS clock, be sure to
- set the DOS clock first to the desired time. You can do this
- with the standard DOS commands DATE and TIME. When you enter
- the command ATCLKSET CMOS, the time and date specified in
- DOS, ATCLKSET copies these onto the CMOS clock.

- SOFTAB - Technical Notes
-
- (Rename ATSOFTAB.COM to SOFTAB.COM on your disk. - PsL)
-
-
- As you may already know, if you write to a 360K disk with
- your AT diskette drive, it can really screw up data on the
- diskette. You won't notice a thing, however anyone without a
- AT drive may get bad data. This happens "sometimes" and is
- perhaps one of the strangest things about the AT.
-
- [Authors note: This subject is near and dear to me, I once
- demolished my friends FLIGHT SIMULATOR diskette in this way.]
-
- Never fear, Sapphire Software is here! We have developed a
- little RAM-resident program that will end this problem
- forever - SOFTAB. SOFTAB actually places an invisible WRITE-
- PROTECT TAB on any 360K disk you put in your AT drive! Simply
- run SOFTAB once (AUTOEXEC.BAT file is a great place to run
- SOFTAB) and the rest is automatic. The moment you try to
- write to a 360K diskette - BEEP! "That disk is write
- protected!".
-
- If at any time you wish to disengage this protection,
- simply type
-
- SOFTAB OFF
-
- and to turn it back on again
-
- SOFTAB ON
-
- It is just that easy.
