- >>> The AT&T PC6310 <<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<
-
-
-
- The PC 6310 is the new top of the AT&T PC product line in terms of price
- and performance. It is designed to meet the business needs of the
- individual "power user," and with its large hard disk capacity can also
- be a LAN file server or multi-user workstation.
-
- As an Intel (TM) 80286-based workstation, the PC 6310 is highly
- compatible with the IBM PC/AT for application software, hardware, and
- peripheral support.
-
- PC 6310 purchasers who are stepping up from the first generation PC's
- will be able to use most or all of their expansion boards, whether those
- were designed for PC/PC XT-compatible or PC/AT-Compatible machines.
-
- The PC 6310's support for three half-height magnetic storage devices (or
- one half-height and one full-height) provides unusual flexibility in
- configuration. Along with the wide range of AT&T enhancement options and
- peripherals, this allows the user to tailor the PC 6310 for a variety of
- uses.
-
- FEATURES AND BENEFITS
-
- Central Processing Unit
-
- The PC 6310's Intel 80286 microprocessor runs at 8 MHz with one wait
- state, providing MS-DOS benchmark performance equal to that of the 8 MHz
- IBM PC/AT. This speed is approximately 7% faster than the PC 6300 PLUS
- and 25% faster than the original (6 MHz) IBM PC/AT.
-
- The motherboard has a socket and circuitry for the Intel 80287 math
- co-processor, with provision to operate it at 5.3 MHz or 8 MHz. The
- co-processor offers even higher performance in arithmetic-intensive
- applications. Users of engineering and CAD applications, specialized
- graphics packages, and very large spreadsheets will benefit from the
- additional speed.
-
- Serial and parallel port connections, PC/AT-Compatible sound circuitry,
- and clock/calendar with battery backup are all standard. The CPU front
- panel has a security lock, three LEDs, and speaker volume control.
-
- RAM and RAM Expansion
-
- All configurations come standard with 512KB RAM on the motherboard with
- the exception of the 68MB hard disk unit which comes standard with 1MB of
- RAM on the motherboard. Additional 256 kilobit chips can be added to
- expand memory to a total of 1MB of RAM.
-
- Commercially manufactured 16-bit, AT-style memory expansion boards with
- 512KB, expandable to 2MB in 256KB increments, are available from outside
- vendors. The three available AT-type slots will accommodate three
- expansion boards for a total system RAM of up to 7MB.
-
- Note: The AT&T Enhanced Memory Board is NOT compatible with the PC 6310.
-
- Magnetic Storage Devices
-
- The standard, intermediate, and high-capacity configurations include
- 20MB, 40MB, and 68MB hard disk drives respectively. The 40MB and 68MB
- disks offer 40msec or better access time. The first two are half-height
- or "slim" units, while the 68MB drive is full-height.
-
- Configurations
-
- All configurations with the exception of the 68MB hard disk unit come
- standard with 512KB RAM. The 68MB hard disk unit comes standard with 1MB
- RAM on the motherboard. The AT&T Keyboard Model 303 is recommended,
- however, the AT&T Keyboard Model 302 can also be used. Both the AT&T
- monochrome monitor Model 313 and color monitor Model 318 can be used with
- all configurations.

- >>> Questions and Answers Concerning the AT&T PC6310 <<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<
-
-
-
- 1) Q. When can we order the AT&T PC 6310?
-
- A. The AT&T PC 6310 is currently in DOSS under Controlled
- Introduction status. General availability is currently
- scheduled for March 1987, for all PC 6310 configurations.
-
-
- 2) Q. What AT&T Keyboards work with the PC 6310?
-
- A. The AT&T Keyboard Model 303 (101 Key) is the recommended
- keyboard. The layout of this keyboard is similar to the IBM
- Enhanced PC Keyboard sold with the IBM PC/AT and the IBM PC
- XT/286. The AT&T Keyboard Model 302 (84 Key - introduced with
- the PC 6300 PLUS) also works with the PC 6310. The AT&T
- Keyboard Model 301 (83 key - introduced with the PC 6300) does
- not currently work with the PC 6310.
-
-
- 3) Q. Does the AT&T Mouse work with the PC 6310?
-
- A. The AT&T Mouse does not work with the AT&T Keyboard Model 303.
- It does work with the AT&T Keyboard Model 302 (84 Key). If a
- mouse is desired in a PC 6310 using the Model 303 keyboard, a
- serial port type mouse is required (along with mouse driver
- software).
-
-
- 4) Q. What AT&T Monitors work with the PC 6310?
-
- A. The PC 6310 uses the same monitors as the PC 6300 and the
- PC\6300 PLUS. Both the Monochrome Monitor Model 313 and the
- Color Monitor Model 318 work with the PC 6310.
-
-
- 5) Q. What MS-DOS version must be ordered with the AT&T PC 6310?
-
- A. Only MS-DOS version 3.2 will run on the PC 6310. AT&T MS-DOS
- versions 2.1 and 3.1 do not run on the PC 6310.
-
-
- 6) Q. What multi-user operating system can be ordered for the AT&T
- PC\6310?
-
- A. XENIX Version 1.00 operating system can be used with the PC\6310
- when requiring a multi-user environment.
-
-
- 7) Q. How can I order XENIX Version 1.00 operating system?
-
- A. It may be purchased from the Santa Cruz Operation by calling
- 408-425-7222.
-
-
- 8) Q. How much RAM comes standard on the 68MB hard disk unit?
-
- A. The 68MB hard disk unit comes standard with the 1MB RAM on the
- motherboard. Please Note: The AT&T PC 6310 Marketing Guide is
- incorrect.
-
-
- 9) Q. How can I expand the memory to the maximum 7MB?
-
- A. For all configurations except the 68MB hard disk unit (comes
- standard with 1MB RAM), to reach the maximum 1MB on the mother-
- board you populate the motherboard with an additional 512K of
- RAM using 256K chips. Please Note: The motherboard must be
- populated in increments of 512K only.
-
- To expand memory by an additional 6MB you can add up to 3
- commercially available AT compatible memory expansion type
- boards in the 3 - 16 bit slots.
-
- The AT&T Enhanced Memory Board announced for use with the
- PC\6300 PLUS does NOT work with the PC 6310.
-
-
- 10) Q. What type of expansion slots are available on this product.
-
- A. - (4) AT-type 16-bit
- - (2) XT-type 8-bit
- - (1) AT&T proprietary 16-bit (like 6300 & 6300 PLUS)
- The AT and XT type slots both can accommodate 8-bit card
- The AT&T proprietary 16-bit slot can only accommodate the
- 16-bit DEB board. It also accommodates some (but not
- all) 8-bit XT-type boards.
-
-
- 11) Q. How many expansion slots are available?
-
- A. Six expansion slots are always available in all AT&T PC 6310s as
- purchased from AT&T. The single floppy units are equipped with
- a floppy disk controller card. In order to add a hard disk
- drive of the single floppy unit, a hard disk controller must be
- installed.
-
- All hard disk models ordered from AT&T will be shipped with a
- "combo" disk controller. This "combo card", takes up one 16-bit
- AT-type slot, and controls both the hard disk drive and floppy
- disk drive. Hence 6 slots are available for other boards.
-
-
- 12) Q. What do I need other than a commercially available hard disk
- drive or floppy disk drive in order to add an additional
- internal peripheral to my PC 6310?
-
- A. You must order the "PC 6310 Mechanical Assembly Kit", which
- consists of the screws and brackets required to upgrade the
- configuration.
-
- For a quantity of 5 or more kits you may place an order in DOSS:
- PEC 37142, list price $15.
-
- For quantities of 1 to 4, you must order the "Mechanical
- Assembly Kits" COMCODE 405371402, through the National Parts
- Sales Center (NPSC) on 1-800-222-PART.
-
-
- 13) Q. Can we order an 80287 Math co-processor chip from AT&T for the
- PC\6310?
-
- A. At this time, AT&T does not sell an 80287 math co-processor for
- the PC 6310. Although AT&T sells an 80287 chip for the PC 6300
- PLUS, it is a 6MHz chip and will not run on the 8MHz PC 6310
- Commercially available 8MHz 80287 chip can be purchased for the
- PC 6310.
-
-
- 14) Q. What hardware and software is known to be compatible with the
- AT&T PC 6310?
-
- A. The AT&T PC 6310 is designed to be highly compatible with the
- IBM PC/AT. To date, we have been able to test a number of
- hardware and software products to verify compatibility.

- >>> The AT&T Keyboard Model 303 <<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<
-
-
- The new AT&T Keyboard Model 303 is a 101-key keyboard. It is recommended
- for use with the PC 6310, and is designed to work with all AT&T personal
- computers in the future*.
-
- The layout of the keyboard is similar to the "IBM Enhanced PC Keyboard"
- which is customarily sold with the IBM PC/AT and the IBM PC XT/286.
-
- Additional Keyboard Features
-
- The Model 303 Keyboard features:
- o N-Key Rollover
- o 12 Program Function Keys
- o Green LEDs for "Num Lock", "Caps Lock" and "Scroll Lock"
- o Keystroke buffering/buffer overflow
- o Self Test and Keyboard Enable Command
- o Auto repeat
-
- Order Interval/Availability
-
- The Model 303 keyboard will be orderable in conjunction with the PC 6310
- and will maintain the same order intervals.
-
- Mouse Support
-
- Unlike the current 301 and 302 keyboards, the 303 keyboard will not
- support the current AT&T mouse. If a mouse is desired for use with a PC
- 6310 and the Model 303 keyboard, a serial port type mouse or a mouse
- connected to an expansion card is required (along with the mouse driver
- software).
-
- It is designed to work with three different keyboard interfaces. These
- keyboard interfaces correspond to AT&T Intel-Based Personal Computers
- currently in production and Personal Computers under development. The
- result is a versatile keyboard able to connect to the following:
-
- Workstation Keyboard Interface
- PC 6300 Olivetti/AT&T Interface
- PC 6300 PLUS Olivetti/AT&T Interface
- PC 6310 Olivetti/AT&T Interface
- Future PCs IBM PC/XT Interface
- Future PCs IBM AT Interface
-
- An "intelligence" built into the Model 303 keyboard enables it to
- automatically detect the specific Personal Computer Interface to which it
- has been connected.
-
- * Current ROM BIOS in the PC 6300 and PC 6300 PLUS limit full use of
- keyboard Model 303 capabilities. Plans are in place to modify ROM
- BIOS in both PCs to enable them to take advantage of the new
- keyboard's full capabilities.
