- There are two types of AT&T 4000 Modems, each requiring a
- different setup with Sidekick. The first, 1AO1, uses the AT&T
- command set to dial, and should be setup accordingly in Sidekick.
- The 1AO2 requires the Hayes setup option. This holds true for
- any other AT&T modem that uses the Hayes command set, such as the
- 4112 and 4024 modems.

- ============================DBASE II=================================
-
- INSTALLATION AT&T VERSION 2.41 SCREEN EDITOR (SED)
- Our PC6300 comes with a color graphics card standard.
- This requires a change to bring up the screen editor.
- The default setting is "M" for monochrome. Even though
- a customer has a monochrome monitor, they still use a
- color graphics card.
- To make the change you do the following:
-
- PROMPT- SINSTALL
- ACCEPT DEFAULT LIBRARY VALUE (SED.EXE) BY CR
- TO "DO YOU WANT TO CHANGE DEFAULT PARAMETERS?" Y
- Accept default values by CR until the line
- Do you have the monochrome or color graphics monitor?
- The default is (M) change it to C
- Accept default values again by CR until the line
- Save this installation data? Y
- Accept the default for library (SED.EXE) by CR
- If the user now types sed it will bring up the screen
- editor.
- The procedure for reference is in the dBase II User's
- Guide under Appendix A
-
-
-
- INSTALLATION ASHTON-TATE VERSION (NO AT&T LOGO)
- This version requires the user to run the install
- program.
- prompt- install CR
- From menu #1 select F (COMPAQ) CR
-
-

- -Q CR
-
- SHOULD THIS VERSION STILL NOT BE FULLY SUPPORTED, REFER TO
- ASHTON-TATE RUNTIME DEPT. (213)204-5570 FOR AN UPDATE. THERE
- IS A SERVICE CHARGE FOR THIS.
-
-
-
- STARTING THE LESSONS
- DUAL FLOPPY
- Boot the machine from DOS in drive "A". If you put the
- "start-up" disk for the dBASE lessons in drive "B",
- when the system is booted, type B: and return. Type
- dbase and you will bring up the tutorial dbase
- program and get a "." prompt. Type "do lessons" and
- this will start the lessons for you. When prompted for
- future lessons diskettes, put them in the "A" drive and
- tell dBASE that they are in drive "A".
- If you put the dBASE "start-up diskette" in the "A"
- drive however, just type dbase from the "A>" prompt and
- then put future lessons diskettes in drive "B".
-
- IN BOTH CASES THE "START-UP" DISKETTE MUST BE IN THE MACHINE
- WHEN CALLING UP ANY LESSONS.
-
- For a hard disk machine this is also true. We suggest
- the user make a sub-directory for the "start-up"
- program diskette. Copy the "start-up" diskette to that
- directory. CD to that directory and call dbase from
- there. This will start your program. Type "do lessons"
- and you will get your "." prompt. When calling future
- lessons, you will be prompted to insert the diskettes
- in a drive OTHER than the one you called dbase from.
- Put future diskettes into the "A" drive and tell the
- program that they are in drive "A".
-
- THE MACHINE LOOKS FOR THE PROGRAMS ON THE "START-UP"
- DISKETTE EVERY TIME YOU TRY TO START A NEW LESSON. IT MUST
- BE PRESENT IN THE MACHINE AT THAT TIME.
-
-
-
- CAN'T INPUT 16TH RECORD INTO A DATABASE
- We have had a number of complaints by customers stating
- they could not get more than 15 records into a
- database. There is a DEMO disk which comes with dBASE2
- which has a limit of 15 records stated on its label. If
- you are using this disk instead of the system disk this
- will happen. The main problem exists when you load
- dBASE II on a hard disk. If you copy the demo disk
- after the system disk, you will overwrite the system
- files with the demo files and be limited to 15 records
- in any database. To recover from this condition, simply
- recopy the system disk to the hard disk and the
- database will now accept the 16th record.
-
-
-
- INDEXING PROBLEMS WITH LARGE FILES
- There is a problem that ASHTON-TATE is aware of. Large
- files seem to corrupt the index files associated with
- them. ASHTON-TATE plans no fix since dBASE III does
- not have the problem and dBASE II files can be used
- with the dBASE III transfer utility.
-

- REQUIREMENTS
-
- MEMORY: 256K
- CONFIG.SYS as follows:
- FILES=20
- BUFFERS=24
-
-
-
- Version 1.0 has been certified on our PC, however it is
- not our product. We provide a basic support to obvious
- questions. When they are in-depth problems, Ashton-Tate
- is responsible for the support.
- This version has a major drawback. It requires the
- system disk be present at start-up of the program.
-
-
-
- INSTALLATION SCREEN EDITOR FOR PC 6300
- Follow the same exact procedure as outlined in DBASEII
- section PAGE 1.3
-
-
-
- UPGRADE FROM dBaseII - CAN I USE MY FILES
- There is a supplement provided with the package which
- will let you salvage all your present dBaseII files.
-
-
-
- WARNING *****FOR ADVANCED dBASE USERS*****
- &-macros should never be used in dBaseIII DO WHILE
- commands lines. This was eliminated for speed. They
- strongly recommend they never be used in ANY control
- structure (IF, ELSE, ENDIF, DO CASE, CASE, ENDCASE, DO
- ENDDO as well as DO WHILE) as they tend to make
- programs difficult to understand and therefore less
- reliable.

-
- ERROR MESSAGE: No Math Co-Processor Present
- The following GW-BASIC program can be used before
- running the Fortran compiler to add the presence
- of the 8087 NDP to the machines list of hardware
- stored in memory. IT MUST BE TYPED EXACTLY AS:
-
- 10 DEF SEG=0
- 20 POKE 1040,(PEEK(1040) OR 2)
- 30 DEF SEG
- 40 SYSTEM
-
- It seems IBM and several others store the presence
- of the 8087 NDP in the equipment status byte upon
- boot. Ours does not, so this patch will add it to
- memory. If no 8087 is present and the patch is
- run, the compiler may or may not run. If a
- reference is made to the 8087 the machine will
- just hang. You will have to reboot to recover.
-
- NOTE : The version 1.21 ROM BIOS chips take care of
- this problem, however, the debug patch to enable
- the interrupt for the 8087 MUST still be run.

-
-
- ===========================VERSION 2.X================================
-
- COPYING WORD
- Page 1-20 of the MS-WORD manual says you can make a copy
- of your program disk, you can't. That's why they include
- a backup copy and copies are available from MicroSoft
- for $25.
-
-
-
- ACCIDENTAL DELETION
- If you accidentally erase your program disk, a simple copy
- *.* will restore it due to the fact 4 hidden files will
- still remain on the disk (non-copyable/erasable), assuming
- del *.* was used to erase the disk.
-
-
-
- RUNNING SLOW
- MS-WORD 2.0 only. If you are using a dual floppy or a
- ramdisk, there must be a disk in the B: drive (ramdisk
- active) or load/run time will be excessive. This is due
- to the fact the program jumps back and forth between
- A: and B: while loading. The disk can be anything
- including blank.
-
-
-
- RUNNING HEADER
- MS-WORD 1.1 doesn't instruct the user where to place their
- runningheader (e.g. first page, last page, etc.). You must
- place the header on the first page of the document, all
- subsequent pages will be printed with the specified header.
- Page D-7 has this information.
-
-
-
- LOAD/RUN TRBL.
- If you have programs such as Sidekick with Popalarm or
- context switch with em4410 loaded in memory, MS-WORD will
- not run.
-
-
-
- PRINT DRIVERS
- If you are using an Okidata 92 printer, install it as an
- IBM-GRAPH, not as an OKI92 (per MS).
- WORD includes drivers for both the ATT455 and the QUME11
- (the same printers). However, odd spacing occurs with
- either of these drivers, instead, install them as TTY
- or TTYBS.
-
-
-
- SHEET FEEDER
- If you use a sheet feeder with WORD, the "Mixed" option
- (print/options/feed) doesn't work with the second bin.
- You must enter an Alt 27 (Alt key then 27 on the numeric
- keypad), 'i' for bin 2, 'j' for bin 1, or 'k' for envelope
- at the top of the page (must be first thing on page).
-
-
-

-
- The following instructions allow the AT&T PC6300 to work with
- Microsoft Word 3.0 in High Resolution 640x400 graphics mode.
- It is not possible to receive color in the High Resolution mode.
-
- 1. Make a copy of the program disk. Do not make changes to
- your original program disk.
- 2. Put the copy of the program disk in drive A, and be sure
- DEBUG.COM is on your default drive/path.
- 3. Type: DEBUG A:WORD.COM <ENTER>

-
- 2) Are they running RELEASE 2?
-
- 3) Are they running the AT&T version?

- ERROR MESSAGE
- The error message "Error E46: @@@@" indicates that two
- files WSMSGS.OVR and WSOVLY1.OVR are missing. In dual
- floppy setup, when WordStar files are on one disk and the
- data is on another, the WordStar disk must be inserted in
- drive A: and the data disk in drive B:. You can copy these
- two files (and resolve this problem) onto your data disk.
- This holds true for a hard disk. You must have OVLY1.OVR
- in order to create or edit files and you must have
- WSMSGS.OVR in order to display help menus. Also, remember
- that WS.COM must be in the drive/directory you are in to
- execute commands (i.e. run, merge, etc.).

-
-
-
- GARBAGE IN FILE
- If you ever TYPE a WordStar document you see a lot of
- garbage (extended ascii characters). The reason for
- this is WordStar turns on the high-order bit on some
- bytes, this turns standard ascii characters (0-127)
- into extened ascii (128-255). They print on our screen
- with the TYPE command because of extended graphics
- characters available in our video controller board ROM.
- If you import this file into 1-2-3, Lotus turns off all
- these high-order bits as part of its normal import
- process, giving you a readable ascii file.

-
-
- The problem with the CopyIIpc Board has nothing to do with DMA or
- the DMA fix. Central Point Software was given incorrect
- information from Olivetti, and set the board to access the DMA
- port dedicated to the Floppy drive.
- If a CopyIIpc Board owner has a new board, made after March 1986,
- there will be two jumpers in the lower right portion of the board
- marked DMA. The fix is to move these jumpers to the LOWER
- position, then invoke with TC /C1 from the keyboard or batch file.
- If a user has an older board without these jumper positions,
- Central Point will replace it, at no charge, by calling the number
- for Central Point in the CopyIIpc Board manual.
