These programs are brought to you through PC MAG.
The original FASTOFF program, as it appeared in PC MAG,
is designed to shut off a floppy drive in half the normal
time. That is, if it takes a normal floppy 2 seconds to shut
down, this will shut it down on 1 second.
FASTOFF inserts it self into the system and takes over
a timer interupt which also decrements a counter related to
floppy shutoff. FASTOFF merely decrements this counter an
additional time thereby halveing the number of timer pops
until the floppy shuts off.
FASTROFF works the same way but additionally checks the
initial value in the shut-em-off-floppy counter and sets it
down if it is 'high'. It then merrily decrements as does
FASTOFF.
FASTOFF2 is yet another variation on the theme. This
flavor simply checks the value of the s-e-o-f counter and
makes it reasonable. Be aware that if the value is set too
low your floppys will not start up properly and you will get
the ever popular 'retry, abort or ignore' message.
In closing let me say that I'm a bit miffed (same-same
P.O'd) that the boys in the back room at TECH SUPPORT cannot
seem to get a handle on this problem. Maybe they don't need
repeat business. Then again, look how much fun I've had
working on this and waiting for my floppys to stop spinning
instead of growing my business and selling more of these
fine systems to my clients. What the heck?
Look these programs over and play with them at your
leisure and let the rest of us know how you make out.
By the way, I take no responsibility nor assume any
liability for any damages related to these programs since I
don't know what the heck I'm doing in the first place.
Ya'll have a nice day, now, ya heah!!!
