6. SCSI PERIPHERALS SUPPORTED
Peripheral support is provided by the combination of FASST
software and optional extra cost application software
packages. The basic rule is that FASST supports what the
operating system supports, and application packages make up
for the deficiencies in the operating systems (i.e. tape under
DOS). Please refer to Section 8.0, Operating System Support,
for exact details.
To the best of our knowledge the peripherals listed below are
compatible with FASST software. But WD is not responsible for
changes made by the peripheral vendor that hinder correct
operation.

8. OPERATING SYSTEMS SUPPORTED
To the best of our knowledge the operating systems listed
below are compatible with FASST software. But WD is not
responsible for changes made by the operating systems vendor
that hinder correct operation.
8.1 MS-DOS SUPPORT
8.1.1 VERSIONS SUPPORTED :
MS-DOS, PC-DOS versions 3.20-4.01
8.1.2 PERIPHERAL CLASSES SUPPORTED :
HARD DISK DRIVES
REMOVABLE MEDIA HARD DISK DRIVES
FASST Software has "dynamic removability" to
allow correct operation of removable media disk
drives under DOS. To this end four partitions
are always allocated to a removable drive.
QIC TAPE DRIVES
Tape application program (such as FASST SYTOS)
required for operation.
HALF INCH TAPE DRIVES
Tape application program (such as FASST SYTOS)
required for operation. This is done with a
Sytos format, not a "labeled tape" [mainframe]
format.
HELICAL SCAN TAPE DRIVES
Tape application program (such as FASST SYTOS)
required for operation.
ERASABLE OPTICAL DISK DRIVES
These are handled as a removable media hard
disk drive (see above).
WORM OPTICAL DISK DRIVES
WORM application program (such as FASST WORM)
required for operation.
CD-ROM DRIVES
Microsoft CD-ROM extensions, and appropriate
CD-ROM retrieval software required for

8.1.5 DIAGNOSTICS AND UTILITIES
SSTSETUP
This is a user friendly partitioning editor and
setup utility to assist in the installation of a
FASST controller in the target system. It
facilitates installing multiple bootable operating
systems on a single hard disk drive. Also
included are advanced diagnostics such as high
level formatting, low level formatting, surface
scans, partition formatting and disk integrity
verification.
LOCK/UNLOCK
These utilities allow the user to lock and unlock
any removable media disk drives on their SCSI
controller. This will improve the performance of
removable media hard disk drives because the
system will not have to verify media presence for
every read and write operation. Usage is
optional.
TESTDISK
This is a performance measurement utility for hard
disk sub-systems that predicts data transfer rates
that can be obtained by MS-DOS. It has a ".DOC"
file that explains the tests and results.
SSTUTIL (currently in OEM BETA test level)
This is a set of hard disk utilities that are
useful when installing a a drive in a computer
system that is already "up and running" with an
existing hard disk drive. It allows partition to
partition copying, drive to drive copying, reading
individual sectors (blocks) from a drive, and
changing individual blocks on a drive. These
functions are particularly useful to programmers.
It is for ADVANCED USERS ONLY.
SCSI
This is a general purpose SCSI device exerciser.
It allows the transmittal of any SCSI command to
any type of device. It is for ADVANCED USERS
ONLY.

Displayed is the SDLP unit number, SCSI ID, SCSI
LUN, device type and device name.
BUFFERS
The BUFFERS command adjusts the MS-DOS config.sys
"buffers=" statement to the optimum value for
usage with FASST. It is included in the
Autoexec.bat file.
