NOVELL INSTALLATION PROCEDURE
Drive : Fujitsu M2613SA Winchester Disk Drive
Controller : Western Digital 7000 Fasst SCSI Host Adapter
-------------------------------------------------------------------
PART I
Drive and Controller Preparation :
1.0.0 - Move the jumpers according to your specific configuration
(please refer to figure 2 ). Install and attach all cables
(i.e. 50 pin and power cable).
Note : Jumper settings on the host adapter will vary from different
systems and controllers installed. Therefore, careful selection
must be taken to avoid incompatibility with other controllers or
option cards installed in the same system.
1.0.1 - Change the equipment configuration in cmos ram which
reflects all equipments installed in the system and change
the hard drive configuration for " no hard drive
installed ".
Hint:
Here are a few examples on how to access the cmos ram setup:
AMI bios = " Press Del Key to enter set-up"
Phoenix = " Ctrl + Alt + Enter or ESC "
Award = " Ctrl + Alt + ESC "
Compaq = Run setup from a Diagnostic Diskette included w/system
Others = " Ctrl S, Alt S "
Note : System should be rebooted upon completion of equipment
changes.
PART II
Create DOS Partition :
Note: The following steps can also be done by using the SST software
that came with your hardware and following the reference manuals.
2.0.0 - Create a small DOS partition. Using either MS or PC DOS,
run fdisk to create a partition large enough to
install all netware work files temporarily (approximately
10-15 MB). Perform a dos format to the newly created
partition and reboot the system.
NOTE :
Make sure that you have made a copy of the original distribution
disks to be used as a set of working disks to do the installation.
2.0.1 - Boot from the hard disk and create the following
sub-directories from the root directory.
At the prompt, type :
C:\> md generate [cr]
C:\> cd generate [cr]
C:\GENERATE> md netware [cr]
╔
2.0.2 - Install the device driver in their proper distribution
disks. For example :
Insert the SST DOS disk into drive A and
a) COPY A:*.DSK TO THE NOVELL DISKETTE LABELED "AUXGEN"
b) COPY A:*.OBJ TO THE NOVELL DISKETTE LABELED "DSK_DRV_.001"
2.0.3 - Run Novell's netgen utility by typing the following line
from the current directory. Insert diskette labeled
NETGEN in diskette drive A:
At the prompt, type :
C:\GENERATE> a:netgen -n [cr]
At this point NETGEN will be creating sub-directories within the
NETWARE directory and copying all necessary files to select and link
all required resources (e.g. device drivers) according to file
server configuration. You will be prompted to insert the correct
diskettes during this process.
NOTE:
Due to specific fileserver configurations, the remaining
procedures should be referenced with the Novell Installation Manual
for more greater detail in selecting proper resources (e.g. Lan
cards, Printer definition and Operating System mode).
PART III
Comprehensive Surface Analysis (Compsurf)
3.0.0 - Run the compsurf utility which is in the UTILEXE-1
(working) distribution disk after you have completed the
initial setup, selection and linking of chosen resource
sets.
3.0.1 - The recommended responses to compsurf utility are as
follows :
Format the disk ? No
Maintain the current media defect list? No
Enter media defects? No
Number of Sequential Passes 0
( this will depend on your confidence level)
number of I/O's Random Test 0
Are these parameters correct? Yes
This concludes the hardware preparations. Please refer to the
Novell installation guide in completing the drive partitioning and
software installation.
