Re:

Dear Dr. :
We have been assisting Mr.(NAME) in processing his claim with the
Veterans Administration for disability compensation. His { Insert
Condition} is currently rated as {30%} disabling. He feels that
his condition is more severe and that the percentage of disability
should be greater.
The Veterans Administration decisions are based upon the
description of the disabling condition that is contained in the
Code of Federal Regulations. I am enclosing a copy of diagnostic
code that relates to {psychoneurotic conditions} that describes
the various degrees of disability. There are {six} degrees of
disability ranging from {0% to 100%}.
It would be helpful in the processing of his claim if you would
review the narrative of each of the degrees of his disability and
then decide which of these most appropriately describes his
condition. Then in writing a narrative summary of your diagnosis
it would be helpful if you could use the same language as that
used in the diagnostic code. In other words if you conclude that
his {"psychoneurotic symptoms are of such severity and persistence
that there is pronounced impairment in the ability to obtain or
retain employment"}, you could use that language in reciting your
diagnosis.
Understand that I do not presume to suggest any particular degree
of disability; I am only suggesting the use of language that will
enable the Veterans Administration to arrive at a determination
more easily.
Thanks,
Veterans Service Officer
