As quoted from the Diasbled American Veteran, Spokane Chapter #45,
November - -December Bulletin."Wounded Men, Broken Promises"
"THE POW ISSUE: 'Their fate Our Quest' Not so of the League of Families.
Ms. Ann Mills Griffiths and Colonel Joseph A. Schlatter, DIA, are out
of tune with reality.
And now we have a Mr. Richard F. Schultz, associate National Legislative
Director of the DAV writing letters as if he is an authority on this issue.
When a national DAV officer requests removal of the POW/MIA flag flying high
in front of the Las Vegas Hilton Hotel during our National convention last
July, it would appear he lacks a certain amount of respect for what it
represents. Just as symbolic as the red white, and blue is to most
Americans.
The POW/MIA flag I presented to this national officer was not displayed
where general business sessions are conducted. I am angered at so
little respect shown by a paid employee who cannot honor a symbol
we respect. I have been a National Delegate, representing the 19th District
on the National Security and Americanism Committee for the past few
years....I cannot understand why Mrs. taber, sister of Ms. griffiths
was introduced before this committee. Giving magazine space to General
Shuefelt, and floor time to Mrs. Taber and Colonel Schlatter is a zero
effect in resolving the POW issue. I challenged Mrs. Taber and was
later rebuked by Mr. Schultz. It is apparent that our servitude is to the
National paid employees for accountability regardless of the moral issue
that predominates our actions. I, we Veterans do not waive our rights
of conscience or moral obligation to either Department, National, or
whatever Veteran organization we belong...." Ned Free Commander
