-
- The Omicron Easy Menu system was written to allow you to have an easy
- way to select and execute programs on a hard disk without typing the
- subdirectory information each time. It is designed to be easy to maintain
- and to use and provides on-line context sensitive help by pressing the F1
- key any time you have questions about what's going on.
-
- The files on the distribution disk are:
-
- File Name Description
-
- OMIMENU.COM The Executable menu driver file
- OMIMENU.DAT The Menu Item data file
- OMIMENU.HLP Help file
- OMIMENU.SCR Menu Screen file.
- OMIMENU.DOC This Documentation
-
- The only files absolutely required are OMIMENU.COM and OMIMENU.SCR.
- The Data file will be created if it is missing. The Help system will not
- work without the help files, but it will not crash the program if it is miss
- ing. These files MUST be present on the drive and in the subdirectory you
- start the menu driver from, or the program will not find them later (even
- if they are on the DOS path).
-
- The program allows you to Add, Edit, Move, Copy, or Delete menu line items
- from the main screen by using Function keys.
-
- To Load and run the menu program for the first time do the following:
-
- 1. Copy all the distributed files into the root directory of your
- hard disk.
-
- 2. Change the current directory of your hard disk to the root:
-
- 3. Start the Menu Program by typing: OMIMENU <Enter>
-
- The supplied Data file has several sample items (mostly other public domain
- utilities which I find useful) which will only work if they exist in a subdi
- rectory called C:\UTILS. You can display the entries by moving the bar
- up and down and pressing F3 so you can see some examples of how to add
- menu entries.
-
- The menu driver has five menus with 12 entries on each menu. This gives
- you a total of 60 programs or procedures you can run from the menu. The
- PgUP, PgDn, and the number keys 1..5 allow you to select which menu page
- you are looking at.
-
- The command keys that are available to you are as follows:
-
- ESC - QUIT this menu program and return to DOS.
- Home - GO TO the TOP of the current menu.
- END - GO TO the END of the current menu.
- PgUp - Move Backward through the 5 menus.
- PgDn - Move Forward through the 5 menus.
- F1 - Show HELP any time for messages or prompts.
- F2 - EDIT/ADD a selected item command.
- F3 - DISPLAY the selected item command.
- Alt-F9 - MOVE/COPY a selected item to another line.
- Alt-F10 - DELETE the selected item from the menu.
- 1 to 5 - Go directly to menu number 1..5.
-
-
- Try pressing F1 for help.
-
-
-
- Next try pressing F2 to Edit one of the sample commands in the supplied
- data file. If you press F1 at each prompt you will get more information. In
- general a menu entry consists of four parts as follows:
-
- 1. Menu Name - The NAME that appears on the menu.
- 2. Directory - The DRIVE and SUBDIRECTORY where the
- program is stored on the disk.
- 3. File Name - The NAME of the FILE that starts the
- program. (must have .COM or .EXE for
- the file extension)
- 4. Parameters - Any Parameters (or options) required
- by the program on the command line.
-
- You will be prompted for each of these during editing, additional Help is
- available by pressing F1 while the prompt is on the screen.
-
- Menu items designated with "Not Used" are inactive and you can add new
- menu items on these lines.
-
- Once you have entered your applications into a menu line you can execute
- it by moving the highlight bar to it with the up and down arrow keys on
- the keypad and then pressing <enter>. The menu program will execute
- your program. After you exit your application the menu program will be
- reactivated and you can select another.
-
- This program does not use Batch files. It executes your applications
- directly by using the DOS 14 interrupt call. It takes approximately 40k or
- memory which is subtracted from the memory available for your program. I
- have successfully tested it with Lotus, dBase, Sidekick, Volkswriter, and
- other major applications and have had no problems.
-
- If you do have problems you can call the SMC bulletin board at (315)
- 423-1208 (5:00 pm to 8:00 am weekdays and all day weekends) and leave a
- comment for the sysop. I will try to answer your question. I will also
- reply to questions by mail at the Omicron offices. For registered users,
- you may call the Omicron Office directly and we will help out as best we
- can.
-
- Omicron makes no warranty, written or implied, as to the fitness of this
- program for any particular purpose. The program is distributed "AS IS"
- and we will not be held responsible for consequential damages resulting
- from its use.
