  1. INSTALLATION INSTRUCTIONS FOR BIBBASE 1.0  (August, 1991)

  3. Copy the three .DOC files to a subdirectory other than the one
  4. where your WordPerfect macros are stored (or leave them on the
  5. floppy disk if you do not know how to copy them to your hard
  6. drive, or if your hard drive is already crowded).  Copy all the
  7. .WPM files (the WordPerfect macros) to the hard disk directory
  8. where your WordPerfect macros and keyboards presently reside.
  9. You can find that location out by pressing Shift-F1,7,3 from
  10. inside WordPerfect.

  12. 1.   If no directory is yet specified for your macros, you should
  13. create one so that your main WP directory does not get cluttered
  14. with these dozens of macros.   You can create a new directory
  15. from inside WordPerfect with the F5,7 (List files) command, or
  16. you can do it at the DOS level with the Make Directory command.
  17. You should specify at Shift-F1,7,3 the name of that directory,
  18. and you should move any WordPerfect macros you already have on
  19. your hard disk into the specified directory as well, ensuring as
  20. you do that you don't have any with the same names as those that
  21. came on the BIBBASE floppy disk.  (ALTD.WPM can change names
  22. without affecting performance.  Almost all the others are tied to
  23. menuing assignments.)

  25. 2.   If you already use WordPerfect macros and you have specified
  26. a directory for macros and keyboards already, copy the macros
  27. into that directory, ensuring as you do that you don't have any
  28. with the same names as those that came on the BIBBASE floppy
  29. disk.

  31. 3.   This file is stored in ASCII code, but the CHART.DOC and the
  32. two MANUAL.DOC files are stored in WordPerfect 5.0 format.  You
  33. can print them from within WordPerfect if you wish.  There is no
  34. need to store the .DOC files on your hard disk long term,
  35. although it does work fine on line, if you prefer that to paper
  36. and your computer can handle it.  You may want to combine the two
  37. manual.doc files if you have the capacity and want it on line.

  40. 4.   Eventually, you may want to delete some of the J2a,b,c,
  41. J6a,b,c, P2a,b,c, and P8a,b,c macros from your hard disk as well,
  42. but that will be much later, when you settle on what formats you
  43. want to export records to.   It is best at this point to copy the
  44. entire contents of the Floppy\macros directory onto the hard
  45. disk.

  47. 5.   Database software varies in sophistication, quality, price
  48. and suitability for academic work.  This one was designed from
  49. the start with book and article references in view.  It works
  50. flawlessly with the records for 99+% of the books and articles I
  51. look at, scan, read, and note in my daily work.  BIBBASE is not
  52. free software.  It is user-supported shareware.  If you decide
  53. BIBBASE is useful for your papers and research, and you continue
  54. to use it beyond a month or so, please send $15 US or Cdn. to

  57. for this program, then you paid only for copying and distribution
  58. of the diskette; the fee included no author royalties.  Shareware
  59. means using my program for a few weeks so that you can decide if
  60. you want it; it does not mean using it forever.  My only income
  61. from this work comes directly from those users who register.

  70. 6.   Guarantee.  At the price, sorry but there is none.  I cannot
  71. guarantee this software to suit any of your needs or solve any of
  72. your problems.  At the price, I cannot offer support either.  I
  73. do use it myself every working day and will continue to make
  74. improvements to it.  I plan to submit an upgraded version to
  75. shareware distributors and to national bulletin boards when I
  76. have made a sufficient number of improvements to warrant doing
  77. so - likely in mid-1993.  If you become a registered user of this
  78. version, I welcome you to download or buy a copy of the next
  79. version and use it without registering again and without a hint
  80. of guilt.  If you make changes to any of the macros, I would be
  81. happy to see them on disk or printed, but I can offer only a
  82. mention in the macro itself if I use the changes you suggest.
