******************** NFL-AID DOCUMENTATION ********************
WHAT IS NFL-AID?
It's a program designed to assist you in handicapping NFL
football games - providing you with an in-depth comparison
of any upcoming NFL game. NFL-AID will answer many valuable
questions regarding the past performances of any two teams
scheduled to play one another in the upcoming week. Whether
you're employed in a sports related profession, a sports bettor
or simply an avid sports spectator you'll be impressed with the
programs ability in spotting the trends, picking the winners
and providing the stats in blinding speed.
HOW DOES IT WORK?
The program assumes that you have interest in a specific
upcoming game and will prompt you for relevant information
regarding this game. NFL-AID will respond with four screens
of detailed information that will provide the answer to most
of your inquiries. Also, NFL-AID provides a computer forecast
that is accurate beyond belief. NFL-AID is driven by a com-
prehensive data base that contains game results, including
point spread data. The supplied data base holds the last 500
games for each NFL team and comes pre-loaded with game results
back to the 1980 season.
IS THIS PROGRAM SHAREWARE AND WHAT IS SHAREWARE?
Yes, NFL-AID is shareware.
SHAREWARE is simply a marketing concept that works well for
the seller and the buyer. The seller benefits from the shareware
concept by providing a reduced cost method of advertising and
and program distribution. This is accomplished via bulletin
boards and shareware disk distributors.
Buyer's benefit from shareware by having a "try before you buy"
opportunity to test drive a program before spending their money.
Buyer's are also benefit of a "less than commericial" cost for
sharware (the money saved in commericial advertising is passed
along to the buyer in the way of less costly software).
WHY SHOULD I REGISTER MY COPY OF NFL-AID?
Please register for one or all of the following reasons:
1. Because you'll receive a current data base.
2. Because it's the right thing to do.
3. Because you'll receive weekly updates via modem
for 1 full season free of charge.
4. Because you don't want to have a bad conscience.
5. Because you want to be on our mailing list when we
release CF-AID (that's right College Football-AID)
and it's cooming soon.
6. Because the author has 4 children (3 in braces).
7. Because Sunday and PC's now go together.
8. Because you know that spending hundreds of hours writing
and testing a software program is not just
fun and games.
9. Because you would like the author to spend many more hours
making NFL-AID even better.
10. Because the first 9 becauses are all true.

WHAT ARE THE INITIAL PROMPTS AND RESPONSES?
PROMPT RESPONSE
--------------------- ----------------------------
1. Enter home team Valid team number or abbrev.
2. Enter away team Valid team number or abbrev.
3. Enter favored team H = home, A = away, E = even
4. Number of games to
evaluate 1-500
WHAT DOES NFL-AID DO AT THIS POINT?
NFL-AID goes to work on your request retrieving the appropriate
information from it's data base, tabulating, summarizing and for-
mating four screens of statistical data that will be displayed
in a very easy to read format. Additionally, NFL-AID will, based
on it's review of their previous games predict the games final
score. This is all accomplished in lightening speed (20 game
review takes 2 seconds on a PC/AT system) and the first screen
is displayed at the completion of this evaluation.
ARE THE REPLACEMENT GAMES FROM '87 INCLUDED?
Yes, although if you would prefer to exclude them from any of
your evaluations make sure that you respond to the first question
with either a small c or n. The first question is in regards
to whether you are using a color monitor. A response of a capitol
C or N is the way to request that the replacement games be used
by NFL-AID when evaluations are requested for that time period.
HOW DO I GO FROM SCREEN TO SCREEN?
As noted on the bottom of each screen the function keys move
you from display to display:
F1 - Displays the summary screen
F2 - Displays the head to head screen
F3 - Displays computer-pick screen
F4 - Displays recap screen(s)
F5 - Displays standings screen
F9 - Restart NFL-AID
F10 - End NFL-AID
WHAT'S ON SCREEN 1?
This is referred to as the "summary" screen and is sectioned into
two major areas:
1. Win/Loss/Tie (W/L/T) summaries
2. Average points scored
These sections are cross tabulated with the information that is
most relevant and beneficial when handicapping an upcoming game,
i.e, if the away team is from the NFC central division then stats
will be provided showing how the home team has performed against
NFC central division teams. Another example: if the home team is
the favorite then stats will be displayed showing how they have
performed as a home team favorite and how the away team has per-
formed as an underdog on the road.
CAN I CHANGE ANYTHING ON SCREEN 1?
Displayed at the top of screen 1 is the number of games that
were evaluated. This number can be changed on screen 1 which
will result in an immediate refresh of this screen to reflect
this change.
WHAT'S ON SCREEN 2?
This is referred to as the "Head to Head" screen and is just
that. NFL-AID will display all of the previous games between
these two teams over the last nn games, where nn is the number
of games that you requested be evaluated. The format i.e.
follows:
WINNER-LOSER WINNER'S
DATE WINNER SCORE LINE WINNER W/SPREAD
------ ---------- ------------ -------- ---------------
092185 a-Dallas 28-25 -7.5 Atlanta
Dallas won away 28-25 but Atlanta won with the points.
WHAT'S ON SCREEN 3?
This is referred to as the "Computer Pick" screen. NFL-AID
will predict the final score if there are an adequate
number of games on file for it to make it's prediction.
This feature is impressive to say the least. But don't take our
word for it, keep track of the "Computer Picks" in addition to
the final scores, and then you'll see what we mean when we say
impressive!
WHAT'S ON SCREEN 4?
This is the "Recap" screen. Side by side all of the previous
games that have been reviewed are displayed for both teams.
The format of this display is self-explanatory. Games displayed
in white (or in high intensity on non-color monitors) indicate
that both teams have played this opponent during this period
of evaluation. Paging from screen to screen of recap data is
controlled via a keyed page number on top line of screen 4.
WHAT'S ON SCREEN 5?
This is the "Current standings" screen. The format of this
display is self-explanatory. The current standings will be
reset at the start of each new season, automatically.
HOW DO I ENTER NEW GAME RESULTS INTO THE DATA BASE?
CAUTION: Before you enter new scores copy NFL-DATA & NFL-STAN
files to a backup disk, this is critical because if you enter
incorrect game information, there is no way to correct it
other than to restore these files from a backup copy.
On the very first screen when NFL-AID requests "Enter Home
Team" enter "++".
After "++" has been entered NFL-AID will prompt you for the
following:
PROMPT RESPONSE
--------------------- ----------------------------
1. Game date MMDDYY format
2. Home team Valid team number or abbrev.
3. Home team score Points scored
4. Away team Valid team number or abbrev.
5. Away team score Points scored
6. Favored H=Home, A=Away, E=Even, N=No-line
7. Point spread .5 thru 35 (I.E. 3.5 is 3 1/2)
8. Correct (Y or N) Y-N (N will restart prompts)
(Y will update data file)
9. Any more games (Y or N) Y-N (N will go to start screen)
(Y will go to prompt 2)
NOTE - During the entry of game results in order to change
the game date you will need to end the update process
and restart (via ++) to enter a new date.
THE NFL-AID DATA BASE CONTAINS THE RESULTS OF OVER 3,000 GAMES,
IS ALL OF THIS DATA CORRECT?
We have gone to great lengths to ensure that all of the data
is correct, although, the possibility of a very few errors does
exist.
