READTHIS.DOC for HELP! Ver 4.52
INSTALLATION
The files included with HELP! are the following:
HELP!.COM Main execution module of HELP!. This part remains
resident while HELP! is used. This is very small
to keep RAM usage very low.
HELPRUN.EXE This is the part of HELP! with all of the
commands. It is called by HELP!.COM when needed
and should never be called directly from DOS.
HELP!.HLP This is the On-Line Context Sensitive Help file.
If help for HELP! is not desired, this file may be
discarded.
HED.EXE This is the HELP! Editor. This file can be
discarded if the HELP! Editor is not desired.
HED.HLP This is the help file for the HELP! Editor. If
help is not desired for the HELP! Editor or you do
not use the Editor, you can leave this file out.
MANUAL.DOC This is the HELP! manual. This may not be present
if MANUAL.EXE is present.
MANUAL.EXE This is the HELP! manual archived. This may not
be present if MANUAL.DOC is present.
REGISTER.DOC This contains information pertinent to registering
HELP!. Please read this file!
READTHIS.DOC This is the file you are reading.
The files of HELP! should all be stored in the same directory.
This can be any directory on the Hard Disk. If you want to start
HELP! from any disk or directory on your system, make sure that
HELP! is stored in a directory that is specified with the DOS
PATH Variable. If you want to start HELP! from only the
directory in which it is stored, change to that directory and
type HELP!. For a discussion of the DOS PATH Variable and how to
use it, see your DOS manual.
The HELP! Manual
The HELP! manual is in a document entitled MANUAL.DOC. You may
see a file called MANUAL.EXE instead. This is an archive of
MANUAL.DOC and was done to save disk space. If your copy has
MANUAL.EXE simply type MANUAL and <Enter> to extract the program
READTHIS.DOC for HELP! Ver 4.52
into MANUAL.DOC. This manual will expand to around 320K bytes of
information so make sure you have enough disk space before you
extract the program.
What is New for 4.52
In this version of the program, two new erase modes were added.
One adheres to DoD 5220-M with a three pass destructive write
over of data.
The second erase mode is user defined as to the number of passes
and can be programmed to write over a file as many as 99 times.
Also, for both modes the character used during the last pass can
be defined.
The copy command now allows the file to be compared (as an
option) after the copy to insure data integrity. Also, when the
overwrite mode is prompted and an overwrite prompt appears, you
can now temporarily change to another overwrite mode or turn on
the compare after copy option.
The Equipment Command was enhanced to recognize XMS memory as
extended memory and print out the version of XMS and EMS memory
managers present.
You can now specify a path & name to use for the format command.
Also: Extended error messages, additional support for networks,
the cursor now will look different in overtype and insert modes,
and a few small bugs were fixed.
Version 4.51
Added a new enhanced Format Command that senses the type of drive
you want to format and presents a menu of options for that drive
type.
Enhanced the Print Command to allow for complete specification of
headers and footers during Print Formatted operations.
Version 4.5
Tree sorted Alphabetically, enhanced the Equipment Command to
sense 486, 80188/86 and NEC processors. Added Expanded memory
remaining also.
Version 4.4
Added the ability to program the keyboard on units whose BIOS
support it. Cursor repeat rate and delay before repeat can be
specified.
